SAWFILER

Our Leola, Arkansas Sawmill division is currently seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of: SAWFILER

Our Sawfiler position is a valuable role with the expectation that self-motivated individuals will advance into progressively skilled positions.

What you will do:

  • Assist in knife, band saws, and gang saw changes.
  • Work with babbit and mill guides properly using knife usability knowledge.
  • Able to maintain saw guides.
  • Troubleshoot knife, gang, band saws, and guide problems.
  • Housekeeping Saw Shop and outside shop doors
  • Cutting old band saw blades with oxy/acetylene torch.
  • Responsible for inspecting, sharpening, and assisting in replacing large saws in the sawmill.
  • Safely filling and maintaining band saws and circle saws, performing machine alignment, maintaining saw filing equipment, and preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Inspect equipment for signs of wear/damage and recognize unsafe conditions.
  • Able to maintain saw guides.
  • Sharpen, repair and maintain circular saws, band saws, and knives properly.
  • Must be able to operate and understand precision measuring and grinding equipment.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with members of the production and maintenance teams.
  • Ability to adhere to all safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties when assigned.

What you need to be successful:

  • Be willing to work rotating shifts.
  • Have 6 years of work experience as a band saw filer.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be able to operate and understand precision measuring, work orders, observations, and machine manuals, and grinding equipment.
  • Ability to perform all tasks in accordance with West Fraser safety policies and procedures.
  • Recognize and support our team culture, communicating effectively with all team members.
  • Good computer skills
  • Basic math skills

What will make you stand out:

  • Circle Saws Experience: leveling, tensioning, re-tipping/welding shoulders, grinding, changing saws & guides in machines.
  • Knives & Guides Experience: grinding knives to proper angles, pouring and babbiting knives to correct height, changing knife machines, pouring and repairing Gang Saw Guides
  • Band Saws Experience: leveling, tensioning, welding cracks & teeth, swedging, shaping, & grinding band saws
  • Quality Control Experience: utilize Brunson optical tool for alignments, perform saw and knife PM's, quality checks of lumber, measure/record with tape and calipers, make saw change decision during shifts, perform PMs in filing room equipment.
