POSITION OVERVIEW

The Gel-Coat Technician is responsible for repairing boat gel-coat damages, scratches, and blemishes. The Gel-Coat Technician is responsible for delivering the highest quality repairs for a variety of boat brands.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Wet sand scratches and minor blemishes
  • Perform minor to medium level gel-coat repairs
  • Repair minor fiberglass damages
  • Buff and polish boats with a high-speed buffer
  • Maintain all gel-coat materials
  • Deliver top-quality repairs to all serviced boats
  • Assist in the shop’s organization, safety, and cleanliness
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Be comfortable using a wide range of shop tools and equipment
  • Ability to move boats from 19’ – 26’ in length
  • Communicate with customers in a friendly and outgoing fashion, providing them with clear and honest information
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be a productive member of the team
  • Promote the Tommy’s Boats brand
  • Any other requests from supervisor

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
  • Trailering:Trailering experience preferred
  • Operation of Boats:Ability to operate a wide range of different boats preferred
  • Mechanical Experience: Mechanical experience in marine or automotive industries preferred
  • Attention to Detail: Pay close attention to detail; ability to identify damages and repair them efficiently and accurately
  • Communication: Interact professionally with colleagues, clients, and company personnel; communicate information clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
  • Humility: Honestly and openly communicate any mistakes or mishaps made and learn from them


WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually medium to loud. The shop can be moderately dirty, in the winters is it colder and in the summer it can be hot.  Outdoor work is expected. Work performed on water is also expected.
  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, or crouch for extended periods of time and regularly required to walk. Employee regularly uses hands and fingers to touch, feel, and handle. Employee regularly stoops, kneels, bends at the waist, and reaches. Employee is frequently required to speak and hear. Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds on occasion.
