Job Title: Outpatient/Admissions Registration Clerk

Reports to (Title): Director, Patient Financial Services

Supervises: (Positions) None.

I. Position Summary

The Registration Clerk must project a professional, caring image while registering patients for an admissions or outpatient procedure. Will be responsible for ensuring that all phases of the registration process (interviews, pre-admission, pre-certification and collection of pre-pays) are completed in an accurate and timely manner. This process will guarantee; (1) that maximum collection is received, (2) preclude any claims denials, (3) that all claims are processed according to state, federal and hospital regulations. Gives patients directions to departments where the treatment will be rendered or may personally transport patient if needed. Must have good communication skills and quick thinking skills. Must also be detailed orientated, have good organizational skills, ability to multi-task and be a fast learner. Must have precise speaking skills and the ability to perform other duties as assigned.

II. Position Requirements:

A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: N/A

B. Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferably in hospital setting is preferred.

C. Experience: Prior experience working in a medical facility admitting office. Experience in interacting with customers/patients in a service oriented setting is a must. Previous data entry experience is helpful.

D. Special qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Basic clerical skills; minimum speed 20 wpm with no errors. Basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax). Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to effectively present information to customers, clients and other employees of the organization. Ability to work well under pressure.

III. Degree of Supervision Required: Minimum; incumbent must be able to work very well on their own.

IV. Ages of Patients Served:

This position requires competence in assessment, treatment, and/or care for the age groups indicated. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care, based on physical, educational, safety, and related criteria, appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned service area. The skills and knowledge needed to provide such care may be gained through education, training, or experience.
