The Cultivation Manager is responsible for setting cultivation standards that are uniformly adhered to throughout all Curaleaf's multi-state cultivation operations to deliver quality and innovative cannabis product strains and variety to medical and recreational cannabis patients. The Manager of Cultivation reports to the Regional Director, Cultivation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Design and Expansion

  • Lead the Cultivation Design Team to direct build-out and equipment planning and expansion for all cultivation operations
  • Monitor and approve subsidiary cultivation CAPEX budget and report variances
  • Communicate regularly with Executive Director concerning all architectural and engineering issues; and
  • Initiate cultivation equipment acquisition

Operational

  • Review current systems for operational efficiency and stays abreast of grow and other technology and product developments in the cannabis industry and related industries
  • Develops methods to monitor and measure cultivation activity to identify areas of success and areas of opportunity to control production efficiency, manufacturing
    variances, material waste, and other indicators of profitability
  • Collaborate with Executive Director's, Director of Processing and Director of Retail Operations to assure proper strain, inventory, and production management
  • Develops and implements procedures for optimal growing and harvesting conditions and Implements mitigation strategies as needed
  • Ensure that the Cultivation Team is adhering to protocols and policies to ensure the Executive Director's production requirements are met
  • Regularly review harvest schedules with Head Growers to ensure proper strain inventory
  • Establish QA/QC policies and standards, including health and safety requirements and monitor and ensure compliance
  • Drives consistency across all cultivation operations, including materials, procedures, and staff & re-training; Refines methods and protocols based on best crop management practices
  • Establish cultivation standards and monitor and ensure compliance and communication, including:
    • Cultivation Equipment specs and standards;
    • Nutrient and environment protocols;
    • Hygiene and safety policies and procedures
  • Regularly collaborate with Head Growers and the Grow Team Committee to identify industry best practices, modify cultivation policies and ensure the uniform roll-out
  • Encourage testing of cutting-edge cultivation methodologies and inputs in a controlled and measured manner
  • Submit weekly to COO, subsidiary cultivation reports (designed by Director of Cultivation) highlighting specific essential items
  • Ability to interact regularly with Executive Directors, Head Growers, Director of Processing, and Director of Dispensary Operations
  • Interface with Academic Research Partners as required

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS

  • Demonstrated mastery of growing methods, including in-depth knowledge of macro- and micro-nutrients, beneficial bacterial and nutrient implementation
  • Expert knowledge of plant diseases, insects, and fungi, as well as plant treatment options
  • Proven experience in managing crops and production is required
  • Sound understanding of the financial principles applicable to effective planning, cost control, and budgeting of the crop growth operation
  • Demonstrated ability to achieve manufacturing objectives in terms of volume, product mix, cost, and quality
  • Knowledge of GMP guidelines

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in horticulture, agriculture, or related field. Advanced degree strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing product, staff and resources in a large-scale commercial greenhouse or agricultural operation at the senior level
  • Extensive knowledge in environment, health and safety standards in agricultural operations required
  • Transparent and high-integrity leadership
  • A proven track record of delivering the organizations results through people
  • Strong communications skills
  • Subject to background check per state cannabis regulations

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs individually
  • Must be able to sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach and lift for long periods
  • Must be able to work in retail, manufacturing, or production facilities with moderate to loud noise level and changing working conditions
  • May require the use of safety equipment or personal protective equipment, as needed
