SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Assists in examination and treatment of patients under direction of Provider and/or Clinic Leader by performing the following duties.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  1. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (such as pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height) and records information on patient’s charts.
  2. Prepares treatment rooms for examination of patients.
  3. Drapes patients with covering and positions instruments and equipment.
  4. Applies compresses, ice bags and hot water bottles.
  5. Assembles and uses such equipment as catheters, tracheotomy tubes and oxygen suppliers.
  6. Hands instruments and materials to Provider as directed.
  7. Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  8. Re-stock medical supplies in exam room.
  9. Inventories and orders medical supplies and materials.
  10. Administers specified medication, orally or by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection, and notes time and amount in patient’s chart.
  11. Assist with operation of x-ray, electrocardiograph (EKG), and other equipment to complete routine diagnostic tests or calls medical facility or department to schedule patients for tests.
  12. Collects samples, such as urine, blood and sputum, from patients for testing and performs routine laboratory tests on samples.
  13. Assists as needed in billing/registration office with scheduling appointments, receives money for bills, scans x-ray and other medical records, performs clerical tasks, and completes insurance forms.
  14. Coordinates referrals for patients through insurance and other provider offices.
  15. Ensure all referrals to internal on-staff providers such as, but not limited to, dietician and behavioral health are coordinated per RHCA policy and procedures.
  16. Provides coverage for lab technicians and receptionists as needed.
  17. Responsible for entering all required information in the EMR according to protocol and processes established.
  18. Responsible for accurate and complete documentation of a complete medical history, family, and social history as well as medications at each visit by a patient.
  19. Will review patient demographics and other entered data to assure accuracy.

20. Will maintain basic life support and defibrillation certification according to Red Cross or American Heart Association guidelines.

21. Will coordinate with provider to ensure all quality standards of the organization are met on an ongoing basis.

22. May assist in the training or re-training of nursing assistants, which may include but is not limited to the following – EMR workflow and checkoff, nursing skills/competency checkoff, lab competency, Quality measures and requirements as well as being a point of contact for Clinic Leaders and Director of Clinical Services.

23. Perform any other duties as assigned by Clinician Supervisor.

Requirements:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Nurse Aid, Medical Assistant or similar medical certification and minimum 1-3 years’ experience working in a medical or clinical setting. Bi-lingual (Spanish and English) preferred. Valid drivers’ license and willing to submit to background check and drug screen.

  1. Ability to assess, organize and plan; demonstrated skills in problem identifications and problem solving.
  2. Ability to exercise judgment and work independently under general direction.
  3. Ability to work flexible hours.
  4. Ability to function as a team member.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff, patients, community partners and more.
  6. Computer literate and capable of operating an EMR.


SOFTWARE SKILLS: Experience with eClinical Works is a plus. Must be proficient with MS office suite.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Normal office environment with occasional evening or weekend work
  2. Periodic local, state and national travel; travel between Health Center and Administrative Sites
  3. Physical Demands: Lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, carrying, sitting, vision corrected in normal range, hearing corrected in normal range
  4. Hazardous Conditions: Exposure to infectious diseases; potential exposure to physical violence
  5. Machines, equipment, tools and supplies used: computer, postage machine, fax, copier, calculator, multi-line phone system
