**This is an on-site position located in Houston, Texas**

The Commercial Lending Coordinator will be the servicing and loan documentation lead for the Commercial Team. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: preparation and review of supporting loan documentation and checklists for execution in coordination with outside counsel for new loans, renewals, modifications or other loan agreements using specific approved loan terms while complying with internal policies and procedures as well as regulatory and legal requirements. Additionally, the position will require payment processing, document drawing, funding, and some loan servicing functions of commercial loans and share relationships. Respond to internal and external member-owner requests and inquiries regarding commercial loans or share accounts. Performs appropriate quality control functions around onboarding of loans to the Core System. Establish Ticklers to track financial, collateral, covenant and insurance documents and clear ticklers upon delivery and uploading of individual documentation from lending staff. Prepares and disseminates reports as directed by Management including preparation of Credit Committee meeting minutes, etc.

  • Responsible for initiating and driving the loan closing process, coordinating the activities, decisions, and communications amongst the deal team with the member or member outside counsel, and third parties. Responsible for generating and completing the Closing Check List for assigned tasks in tandem with the Business Membership Officer and documenting all commercial loans through attorneys or with Credit Union loan docs to ensure the loan is documented and closed within established policies, procedures, guidelines, and regulatory requirements and as per the Loan Approval Worksheet including necessary searches etc. This includes New Loans, Renewals, Modifications, Forbearances etc. Identify and appropriately mitigate exceptions. Responsible for accurate onboarding of all commercial loans on credit union system of record including the creation of Financial, Collateral and Covenant Ticklers etc. within LOS (Sageworks). Responsible for initial lien perfection with title companies and UCC filings, clearance of any post-closing exceptions and going forward lien perfection as noted in Collateral Ticklers. Responsible for ensuring maintenance of proper insurance coverages for credit union collateral and payment of real estate taxes.
  • Responsible for engaging approved 3rd Party providers including Appraisal, Environmental Reports (Environmental Limited Site Assessment, Phase I, Phase II), Construction Loan Plan & Cost Review, Construction Project Management Oversight, Field Exams and Collateral Audits etc. Manages construction draws within the approved construction budget and established guidelines and ensures construction loan is in balance.
  • Responsible for quality control (2nd line of defense) as applicable ensuring proper boarding of loans and creation of Financial, Collateral, and other ticklers in Sageworks as noted in the Loan Approval Worksheet. Responsible for clearing Financial, Collateral, and other ticklers in Sageworks when presented with proper documentation from the Business Membership Officer(s). Keeps management informed of reporting exceptions. Responsible for preparing all final Reservation of Rights or Default Letter Notices at the direction of the VP of Commercial Credit or Chief Credit Officer in consult with Business Membership Officers.
  • Service of member business relationships including uploading of due diligence items into Sageworks/Abrigo files for Underwriting (new deals, renewals, modifications etc). Application of loan payments, line of credit draws, and resolution of Borrower account maintenance issues and inquiries related to commercial loans and business share accounts. Assist with any member account transaction history or documentation history research and loan payoff and/or interest statements as deemed necessary.
  • Upload all financial information received from Borrower and Guarantor and ensure proper file maintenance. Must comply with all company policies and procedures, applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

Requirements

Experience

A minimum of one year up to three years of similar or related experience, including preparatory experience.

Education/Certifications/Licenses

A high school degree or equivalent

Interpersonal Skills

A significant level of trust, credibility and diplomacy is required. In-depth dialogue, conversations and explanations with customers, direct and indirect reports and outside vendors can be of a sensitive and/or highly confidential nature. Communications may involve motivating, influencing, educating and/or advising others on matters of significance. Typically includes subject matter experts as well as first level to middle managers.

Other Skills

Previous experience in commercial loan documentation is required and experience in support and management of a lending portfolio is required. Must be independent thinker and confident in decision-making and follow through including documentation review in making credit decisions within SFCU Commercial Loan Policy and Guidelines. Attention to detail. Analytical competency accessing LTV, DTI and debt capacity and utilization from Credit Bureau and other data sources. Independent follow through and management in overall commercial portfolio reporting and tracking of exceptions etc. Ability to perform audit and review of onboarding of loans and creation of ticklers etc.

Physical Requirements

Is able to bend, sit, and stand in order to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation. Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance.

Working Conditions

Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with minimal noise.

Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to complete basic mathematical calculations, spell accurately, and understand computer basics. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence. Must be capable of dealing calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of customer service and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines / requirements for extreme accuracy and quality and/or fast pace. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
