JOB SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Director of Nurses in the Care Center, the Registered Nurse Supervisor will assist the DON and ADON with supervising and coordinating the continuity of quality resident care, to supervise nursing employees, assess critical residents and situations, and implement care as necessary and in accordance with the Joint Commission, federal, state, and local guidelines, organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Position communicates with medical staff, other departments, and outside agencies while maintaining confidentiality. Position requires self-motivation, creativity, and capabilities to function in a semi-autonomous role within a fast-pace and dynamic environment.


STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE

1. Administers prescribed medication; operate medical equipment and monitor patient status; record patient information in medical records; assist physician with examinations and administers treatments as needed.

2. Make rounds on all residents twice a shift. Once at night and once in the morning.

3. Assesses critical residents every two hours and as needed.

4. Evaluates all residents who have fallen in the past forty-eight hours and document findings on the accident report and in the resident record. After forty-eight hours, place incident report in the Director of Nurses – Care Center office.

5. Assists in emergencies, to include assessing the resident, notification of physician and family members, documentation, etc.

6. Be available to both nurses’ stations, assist as needed, supervise all resident care provided by the LPN’s and CNA’s, and provide direct patient care as needed.

7. Answers the telephone and call lights when the LPN’s are administering medications, and at other times when necessary.

8. Reports any equipment malfunction, or supply shortage.

9. Locates qualified staff to replace absentees.

10. Assures that residents receive proper care in a timely manner.

11. Ensures that residents are in the dining room in a timely manner, that LPN’s assist/supervise/monitor meals and see that residents who require assistance with meals receive it.

12. Completes other duties as assigned/needed/necessary.

13. Leave a written report for the Director of Nursing – Care Center on any problems with residents, staff, or resident’s families. Please note your interaction in these circumstances.

14. Participates in continuing education.

Requirements:

Minimum Level of Education: Education level equivalent to completion of high school, and completion of Registered Nurse Training course of study.


Formal Training: Management skills with experience in planning, organizing, implementing, facilitating, interviewing, counseling, and verbal and written communications.


Licensure, Certification, Registration: Must have and maintain an unencumbered Georgia Registered Nurse license, and Basic Life Support CPR certification.


Work Experience: One to two years related experience and/or training preferred.

Calculator, personal computer, telephone, facsimile machine, paper shredder, copier, printer, standard nursing equipment, long term resident care equipment.
