It is the primary responsibility of the Librarian to maintain and operate the library in an efficient manner to serve preschool through 12th grade.

Requirements:

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Set up book circulation tray for the day’s activity.
  • Update the magazine and newspaper racks.
  • Check books in and out.
  • Shelve books that have been returned.
  • Repair damaged books.
  • Assist students in finding material.
  • Check out multi-media equipment and material.
  • Process library mail.
  • Supervise students using library.
  • Write circulation notices for overdue books and fines.
  • Process the ordering of books, videos and teaching materials.
  • Conduct inventory.
  • Update card file.
  • Oversee student technology use.
  • Provide technology training and assistance for research.
  • Provide resources (books, internet) to teachers per subject interest.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.A. degree in Library Science, Master’s preferred.
  • Two years’ experience working in library setting.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to give attention to details.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, copy figures, count and record numbers.
  • Ability to follow written, verbal, or diagrammatic instructions; write identifying information; request supplies verbally or in writing.
  • Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; interview to obtain basic information such as age, occupation, and number of children, guide people and provide basic direction.
  • Ability to perform medium physical work; exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects and to do activities such as climbing, balancing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, grasping, pulling, fingering, lifting, feeling and repetitive motion.
  • Clarity of vision at a distance of 20 feet or more, 20 inches or less, and more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet. Ability to identify and distinguish colors. Ability to observe an area up or down, left or right while eyes are fixed on a given point. Ability to judge distance and space relationships, so as to see objects where and as there actually are.
  • Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Ability to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than a 40db loss at 500 Hz, 1,000 Hz, and 2,000 Hz with or without correction.
  • Ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position’s duties are normally performed in a standard work environment based on the activity scheduled. Some physical effort is required; therefore, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. He or she may be required to walk or sit for extended periods and may be exposed to outside weather conditions, including but not limited to heat, cold, humidity, rain, and direct sunlight. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment, such as a computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and other similar machines.



WORKING CONDITIONS:

Working conditions are dynamic. This requires the willingness to work a flexible schedule that may require occasional weekend and/or evening hours. The employee will be using his or her personal vehicle; therefore, he or she must hold a valid driver’s license in the state where he or she is based and have appropriate auto insurance as required by law. The employee needs to be able to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work assignments, and do well under pressure. He or she must also demonstrate professionalism and integrity, take initiative, and exercise confidentiality. Finally, the employee must understand and apply all school policies and procedures, follow instructions, be detailed oriented, and have good follow-through on all projects.
