Vantive: A New Company Built On Our Legacy

Baxter is on a journey to separate our ~$5B Kidney Care segment into a standalone company. Vantive* will build on our nearly 70-year legacy in acute therapies and home and in-center dialysis to provide best-in-class care to the people we serve. We believe Vantive will not only build our leadership in the kidney care space, it will also offer meaningful work to those who join us.

At Vantive, you will become part of a community of people who are focused, courageous and don’t settle for the mediocre. Each of us are driven to help improve patients’ lives worldwide. Join us as we revolutionize kidney care and other vital organ support.

*Completion of the proposed separation of Kidney Care from Baxter into a standalone company (to be named Vantive) remains subject to the satisfaction of customary conditions.

Your role

As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer in Exploratory and Innovation, you will be using engineering expertise to guide the company in exciting new directions. Your daily tasks will include directing internal and external development teams as the subject matter expert or technical lead on next generation product lines focused on the Intensive Care Unit. We tackle problems holistically from a systems perspective based on validated user needs. Projects vary and could include assay development, electromechanical devices, disposables or containers and solutions. This would be an individual contributor role under the general direction of a functional manager interfacing with a global team.

What you will be doing:

  • Acts as an individual contributor, core team or technical lead for a specific project.
  • Works hands-on with a strong assay/platform/instrument/software development background to troubleshoot systems, including robotic liquid handling systems, and automated assay protocols, identify opportunities for quality improvements, provide root causes of complex Hardware-Assay-Software interaction problems, and communicate test results and corrective recommendations to the team.
  • Define appropriate test plans and test methods considering the potential impact to user needs and system requirements. Provides input and recommendations for system-level design requirements.
  • Applies moderately complex quantitative methods, analyzes data, evaluates results, forms conclusions, and provides improvements.
  • Works with product management and marketing to define user needs.
  • Drives system integration, optimization, and root cause analysis with the development team during system integration, Alpha testing, and device pre-Beta testing.
  • Supports the clinical team as needed to ensure a structured approach to product validation. May participate in human factors testing.
  • Effectively communicates complex technical information to a cross-functional team in the form of documentation, presentations, or technical summaries.
  • Embraces accountability for critical decisions and deliverables within area/role of responsibility and expanded complexity.
  • Applies diligence in determining the best solution(s) for technical issues. Focuses on critical information without getting bogged down in unnecessary detail.
  • Applies creative thinking to resolve issues.
  • Demonstrates good business judgment in balancing budget, profitability, and vendor relationships; understands business financials and resulting impacts that decisions have on the business.
  • Thorough understanding and drives application of phases of life cycle management.
  • May provide limited technical guidance and/or supervision of other group members.
  • Recommends improvement initiatives to aid department practices.

What you will bring:

  • B.S.in Science or Engineering and 10+ years of related experience in Diagnostic medical equipment
  • Display a solid understanding of theories/practices applied by other fields outside primary area of expertise.
  • Ability to convince management on courses of action with minimal assistance using both written and verbal methods.
  • Effectively operate in and may facilitate cross-functional teams.
  • Must be able to provide solutions that reflect understanding business objectives and cost implications.
  • Statistical Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, Creative Problem Solving
  • Technically adept and confident
  • Leadership: Accountability, Decision Making, Communication
