Join Itron, a pioneering force in the industrial Internet of Things (IoT), energy, and smart grid domains, as we seek a Senior Research and Development Technician to enrich our hardware engineering development lab. In this pivotal role, you'll be an integral part of a dedicated team entrusted with crafting and maintaining cutting-edge mobile and networked communications products. This opportunity is exclusively on-site.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design, prototyping, and maintenance of mobile and networked communications products.
  • Skillfully assemble and verify prototype printed circuit boards and assemblies.
  • Diagnose and rectify issues with prototypes and test units.
  • Conduct comprehensive characterization and validation tests on boards and assemblies.
  • Execute precision soldering tasks, including intricate surface-mount components, often using microscopy.
  • Fabricate engineering test environments, fixtures, and cables, among other necessities.
  • Organize and manage the hardware development lab and its equipment, while meticulously tracking lab assets.
  • Uphold an inventory of essential lab supplies and components, ensuring timely replenishment.
  • Strictly adhere to established safety protocols, fostering a secure and efficient lab environment.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3-5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in digital, analog, and RF electronics principles.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and address issues down to their root causes.
  • Competence in operating common test and measurement instruments such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.
  • Exceptional soldering capabilities encompassing both leaded and lead-free practices, including the manipulation of small and intricate surface-mount devices.
  • Familiarity with electrostatic discharge (ESD) mitigation techniques.
  • Strong organizational acumen with a knack for meticulous recordkeeping.
  • Aptitude for following written and verbal instructions, as well as engineering schematics and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for seamless collaboration with engineering colleagues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with software installation and firmware loading onto programmable devices.
  • Familiarity with networking principles and configurations for ethernet, RF, or cellular network devices.
  • Exposure to Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar microcontrollers.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting or command-line operations.
  • Soldering certification.

Education

  • An associate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or a related field is preferred, or equivalent practical experience.

Physical Requirements

  • The role involves working with electrical, mechanical, and testing equipment in an R&D lab environment, with routine physical tasks such as moving and reconfiguring lab and test equipment.

The successful candidate's starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience.

Liberty Lake, WA: The base salary is $66,000.00 - $127,000.00
