School Occupational Therapist

Location: Lawrenceville, VA
Job Type: Fulltime or Part time Contract
Pay: $45+/Hour


We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Occupational Therapist to join our school district in Lawrenceville, VA. The ideal candidate will provide occupational therapy services to students with various disabilities or developmental delays, helping them achieve their academic and functional goals. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support student success and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments to evaluate students' fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual motor integration, and activities of daily living.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to address students' identified needs and promote independence in school-related tasks.
  • Provide direct intervention services through individual or group therapy sessions, utilizing evidence-based techniques and adaptive equipment as needed.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other school staff to integrate therapeutic strategies into students' educational programs and daily routines.
  • Monitor students' progress regularly, adjust intervention plans as necessary, and document treatment outcomes in accordance with professional standards and school policies.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute valuable input regarding students' functional abilities, therapy goals, and recommended accommodations or modifications.
  • Educate school staff, parents, and caregivers on strategies to support students' occupational therapy goals within the classroom and home environments.
  • Stay current with best practices in occupational therapy and participate in professional development activities to enhance clinical skills and knowledge.


Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Valid license to practice as an Occupational Therapist in the state of Virginia.
  • Previous experience working with children or adolescents in educational settings, preferably as a school-based occupational therapist.
  • Strong understanding of child development, sensory processing disorders, and interventions for promoting functional skills in school settings.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team, prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards in all aspects of practice.


Preferred Qualifications:
Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
Experience with assistive technology and specialized equipment for students with disabilities.
Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations governing special education services, including IDEA and ADA.
