Electrical Technician General Scope: Plasser American Corporation, the leading manufacturer of track maintenance machinery is looking for a mid-Senior level electrical technician to join its team within its manufacturing plant located in Chesapeake, Va. The Electrical Technician focused on setup, inspection, calibration, and troubleshooting of AC and DC systems on railroad maintenance equipment. The Electrical Technician will function primarily on the regular day shift, Monday through Friday, although occasional weekend work, overtime, and travel may be required based on production needs.

Electrical Technician Position Details:

• Performs technically challenging functions such as assembling, testing, modifying, calibrating, and troubleshooting of complex electro-mechanical systems.

• Maintain records of inspections (as required) on the machines. Tests, analyzes, and prepares detailed summary reports, on sub-systems that include, but not limited to generators, power distribution (AC & DC), transducers, and control systems.

• Properly use tools ranging from common hand and power tools to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices

• Interpret and understand engineering drawings, manufacturer's instructions, maintenance procedures, specifications and ensure compliance with customer specifications, work orders, and company quality standards.

• Receive and apply training on new technologies, equipment, safety, and work related subjects

• Identify and correct unsafe conditions and practices. Inspect for quality workmanship during the machine assembly process

• Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and quality auditors.

• Ability to troubleshoot/identify root cause, and systematically solve problems.

Electrical Technician Basic requirements:

• Minimum 5 years experience in power generation or related industry (automotive, electrical, heavy machinery, etc.).

• Knowledge of DC/AC, Voltage Circuit Theory and practical troubleshooting skills

• Must have basic computer skills (email, internet, MS office)

• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English. Capable of working in a team environment

• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and engineering blueprints

• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Preferred Skills:

• Familiar with PLC systems is a plus

• Experience in Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems

• Knowledge of railroad track maintenance machinery is a plus

• Ability to plan activities

• Good mathematical skills, Understanding of the metric system.

• Military experience in power generation is a plus

Electrical Technician Education:

Minimum of a High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED)

Accredited trade school, Military “A” school and or a combination of experience and training

Electrical Technician Knowledge: Incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:

  • Basic knowledge in the fields of electricity/electronics and industrial hydraulics/pneumatics.

  • Basic knowledge in the use of electronic test equipment.

  • Basic knowledge in the reading, and interpretation, of electrical schematic drawings and engineering blueprints.

Electrical Technician Skills: Incumbent must demonstrate or participate in internal/external training programs to obtain the following skills:

• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Ability to troubleshoot/identify root cause, and systematically solve problems.

• Capable of working in a team environment.

• Ability to plan activities.

• Knowledge of basic IT skills and MS Office Application.

• Ability to read, and write, reports and procedures in various formats.

• Ability to read, and interpret, electrical schematic drawings and engineering blueprints.

• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Ability to apply critical thinking and solve practical problems in a variety of situations.

• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and quality auditors.

• Ability to compute angles, slope, degrees, using basic geometry and trigonometry.

• Good mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Understanding of the metric system.

• Ability to use electronic test equipment.

• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
