Teacher (3’s and 4’s) Responsibilities:

● Plan, develop, and execute daily instruction of the preschool program at the appropriate skill and achievement level.

● Implement and present lessons in such a way to engage and encourage students.

● Create a classroom environment that is warm and inviting.

● Provide flexibility and accommodations for individual student needs and/or challenges.

● Regularly communicate student progress to parents informally and through students’ progress reports.

● Demonstrate fairness and consistency in classroom management and the handling of student discipline.

● Plan, in conjunction with the President, an orientation prior to the first day of school to present parents with school philosophy, activities, daily schedule, etc. to prepare them for effective classroom participation.

● Hold annual mandatory parent conferences.

● Provide parent classroom volunteers direction in supporting student engagement and learning.

● Coordinate with parent committee chairpersons and provide necessary direction.

● Work cooperatively as an effective team member to achieve goals and objectives, including meeting with board or chairpersons to help or answer questions as needed

● Attend and participate in general membership meetings in their entirety without voting privileges and board meetings by invitation or request.

Minimum Qualifications:

· High school diploma or equivalent

· 90 hour Child Care class certification (2 - 45hr courses - Growth & Development and Methods & Materials - Must be Preschool, Not Infants and Toddlers)

OR

Hold a Child Development Association (CDA) certification

OR

Approved by Maryland State Dept of Education as a teacher in Nursery- Grade 3

OR

Hold a teaching certificate from another state for Nursery-Grade 3

· 1 year experience in an approved child care facility (to include daycare, nursery schools, home care facility, parks and rec)

OR

at least 1 year of completed college courses

· Original/Sealed transcripts of any college/certification classes completed*

· 9 hour communications class

· 3 hour ADA compliance class

· 3 hour Basic Health & Safety class

· 6 hour Medication Administration training

· CPR and First Aid certified

· Fingerprinted and background check *

· Medical report to work *

· Notarized Release of Information form *

· 12 hours of continuing education annually *

· Candidate must be approved by the OCC before starting in the classroom

Items marked with a * can be completed after candidate is hired

*May be required to complete 45hr Director training after hired.

Compensation and Hours:

The school year runs September – May.

· Salary range is $25 - $30/hr.

· 3's classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings for approximately 6 hours weekly.

· 4's classes are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings for approximately 15 hours weekly.
