Job Description
City-State, LLC is currently recruiting for Sr. Radiation Control Technicians (RCT) @LANLfor our client in Los Alamos, NM to support their work at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Radiological Control Technician – Level 4-5
Pay Range: $60-65/hr.
US Citizenship Required
*Shift differential pay available where applicable
Travel reimbursement is authorized for non-local personnel
Education
- High School Diploma and 6-8+ years of related experience
- Contingent on the ability to pass DOE core 1 and DOE core 2 (site specific) examinations and become fully qualified under the site’s radiation protection program.
Experience
- Expert knowledge of applied radiation protection principles, implementation practices and radiological instrumentation.
- Expert experience and/or knowledge of radiological job coverage principles.
- Expert experience and/or knowledge in radiological event response (CAM alarm, ARM alarm, personnel contamination, etc.)
- Advanced mentoring less experienced RCTs in the execution of radiation monitoring, contamination control, emergency response.
- Expert experience in providing radiological support for moderate and high hazard radiological work with minimal direction.
- Advanced experience in a lead radiation control technician role, to include assigning radiological work, implementing radiological work procedures, issue resolution, and supervision of radiological work practices.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Duties
Provide critical radiological support to mission operations by ensuring radiological safety for workers and the public. Perform workplace surveillance of radiological conditions by conducting monitoring and surveys for removable and fixed contamination, external radiation surveys for beta/gamma and neutron radiation; perform routine and non-routine radiation protection activities to ensure the implementation of and compliance with procedures, including response to abnormal events; perform air sampling and operation of air monitoring equipment; participate in planning of low-, moderate-, and high-hazard work; and provide mentoring to junior radiological control technicians and students and on-the-job training on procedures.
- Provide routine radiation monitoring support for assigned locations.
- Perform, maintain documentation, and reports for workplace radiological surveillance and monitoring of conditions.
- Provide radiological support for routine activities to ensure compliance with Radiation Protection and all Radiological Protection Procedures.
- Operate portable radiation and contamination survey instruments, as well as operate radiological counting instruments.
- Implement radiation protection procedures to a wide range of activities and functions.
- Implement radiation work permits for various tasks and job support.
- Respond to radiological emergencies and abnormal situations.
- Must be able to drive and be insurable to operate government vehicles.
- You will perform radiological air monitor collect and evaluate radiological air samples and perform radiation and contamination surveys.
- Other responsibilities include labeling radioactive material, assisting in the performance of other RCT programmatic functions as needed, all while helping the laboratory make sure our workforce is able to work in a safe environment.
Additional Requirements
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment required for workplace and job hazards including anti-contamination clothing and respiratory protection.
- Ability to use stairways, fixed ladders, and ladders up to 6 feet. Must be physically able to work in demanding environment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and carry 35 pounds.
