Salary: $15

The Line Cook is responsible for preparing food to be served to residents, guests, and staff. They must ensure the quality and consistency of the finished product, adhere to HACCP protocols, sanitation standards, and health regulations. The Line Cook must follow established food production procedures, minimize loss and waste, and have a working knowledge of food products and basic cooking skills.


Essential Functions:

  • Prepare food using established procedures and recipes, determining the required amount and type of food and supplies.
  • Ensure the availability of supplies and food, making appropriate substitutions when necessary.
  • Set up steam table and serving stations, ensuring proper food service in various areas.
  • Follow HACCP protocols, sanitation standards, and proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Store food safely, labeling and dating items, and maintaining storage areas.
  • Prepare food according to standard recipes and special diet orders.
  • Coordinate food production with meal serving hours, maintaining excellence, quality, temperature, and presentation.
  • Keep the work area clean and organized, report equipment repair and maintenance needs.
  • Conduct food temperature checks before service.


Schedule:

  • 10:30am - 7pm but can include some 6am - 2pm shift. 
  • Must be able to work every other weekend. 


Required Education and Experience:

  • Some High School education.
  • Prior experience in a related food service position.
  • Must be at least 18 years old (due to hazardous occupations regulations).
  • Customer service background and orientation.
  • Preferably, 1 year of experience as a Line Cook in a continuing care retirement community, hospital, hotel, restaurant, or similar facility.
  • ServSafe Certification preferred.


Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The Line Cook works in a kitchen environment with various equipment, such as ovens, stoves, dishwashers, slicers, coffee machines, steamers, mixers, and chef's knives. They are exposed to heat, steam, fire, and noise. The position requires 100% standing, as well as sitting, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, and pushing/pulling carts weighing up to 100 pounds. Manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and the ability to follow instructions are necessary.
