We have an opening for a Night Shift - Outside Production Local Truck Driver/Forklift Operator.

Summary

Safely operates tractor and trailer on Company grounds and in the local area. Safely operates forklift on tank yard to unload and transport raw materials.

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential functions Outside Production Local Truck Driver

Before operating, checks to assure tractor and trailer are in safe operating condition. Informs supervisor of problems and/or maintenance needed.

Safely operates tractor and trailer units to transport cucumbers and other raw materials between the Company production facilities and outside warehouses.

Occasionally may assist local warehouse drivers with transport of finished goods, packaging materials and pallets.

Spots delivery trailers at Company warehouse and on unloading areas

Properly connects and disconnects yard dog to trailers.

Ensures proper trailer is being hauled by verifying numbers as directed by Outside Production Supervisor or Outside Production Superintendent.

Assists with fueling yard dog, tractors and refrigerated units

Completes required paperwork.

Keeps tractor and trailer in neat and clean condition.

Operates forklift to load and unload trailers as needed.

Follows safety rules and company policies.


Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions Outside Production Forklift Operator

Operates forklift to unload incoming trucks (enclosed trailers and flatbeds) of plastic boxes, cardboard, or other containers of raw materials including cucumbers, cauliflower, pepperoncini, okra, onions, brine stock, etc. Manually pushes, lifts, or unloads some incoming raw materials packed in baskets or barrels and dumps into bins.

Operates forklift to load outgoing trucks with brine stock, pallets, bins, etc.

Operates forklift to transport raw materials in plastic boxes, bins, or barrels to and from the graders, washers, hydrocooler, the bulk unloader, the tanks and to grading and process as required.

Operates forklift to dump raw materials into hoppers.

Operates graders, washers, bulk uploaders, hydrocooler, or other equipment. Determines this equipment is operating properly, raw materials are graded or washed properly and raw materials are not lost on ground.

Operates forklift to transport and stack empty plastic boxes and grade out bad plastic boxes.

Weighs raw materials at forklift scales as required.

Stoops, bends and lifts or pushes heavy objects in many job duties. Works from ladders in some job tasks.

Follows safety rules and company policies.


Other Duties

Operates tractor to haul product.

Assists with other Outside Production duties as needed.

Cleans assigned work area including unloading and tankyard areas, graders, hydrocoolers, and washer. Occasionally washes hydrocoolers, graders, etc.

Participates in training, employee meetings, committees, project teams, etc. as appropriate.

Receives written and verbal instructions on the above job tasks and performs other duties as directed by Supervisor.

Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

High school plus additional training preferred. Math skills include addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and fractions. Ability to speak, read and write in English needed for job tasks. Must have current Commercial Driver's License and be DOT approved. Certified forklift operator.

Tractor, Trailer, Trailer Jack, Air Hose. Forklift, Ramps, Washer, Yard Dog, Bulk Unloader, Hand tools, Pumps, Hoses, Ladder, Broom, Brush, Shovel, Skimmer, Tractor, Bin, Scales, and other tools and equipment in the Outside Production Area.

Physical Demands

Climbing: Ascending or descending truck ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion.

Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerate degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.

Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time.

Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady forces in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward.

Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.

Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a high position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound.

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/ or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and\or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.

Work Environment

Works outside, subject to wide seasonal temperature variations and intermittent wetness from rain or some job tasks. Fumes from diesel and propane forklifts as well as trucks and yard dog, brine, pepper, and stagnant water. Some contact with oil, grease, rust, brine and dust. Irritating machinery noise. Gloves, goggles, aprons, ear protection and steel inserts for shoes available as needed. May be required to handle alum, chlorine, anti-foam, vegi-kleen and gasoline required for forklifts. . Operates Company vehicles on public highways, on a regular basis.
