POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Nursing (DON) provides nursing and administrative direction for our entire nursing services team. Eden Valley Care Center (EVCC) is looking for a candidate with strong leadership and interpersonal skills who is knowledgeable of nursing practices and procedures in a skilled nursing setting

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Using discretion and independent judgment and under the general supervision of the facility administrator, the Director of Nursing organizes and administers the Nursing Services at Eden Valley Care.
  • The DON implements standards of care, policies, and procedures as established by the company
  • The DON insures timely, accurate, complete documentation by the clinical services on company approved forms
  • The DON ensures that all clinical regulatory requirements are met
  • The DON steers progressive clinical excellence through staff development and implementation of the Core Curriculum, competency validation through skills checks
  • Clinical cost control is an essential part of the role
  • This includes implementation of the wound formulary, bed algorithm and purchasing and renting supplies through standard vendors
  • The DON ensures that all staff function within the job description and licensure, standards related to the role of the RN must be implemented and staffing guidelines are required
  • The DON is responsible for census through: clinical competency and reputation, excellent physician relationships and a culture of professionalism and customer service
  • The DON will administer and follow all HR policies with particular attention to uniform, consistent and fair implementation of the attendance policy, policy on progressive discipline, suspected drug diversion policy, and policies related to a positive work environment and professional appearance
  • It is the expectation of the institution that the employee be able to demonstrate competency in each area
  • It is the duty of the institution to provide orientation and performance evaluation in each area stated
  • Supervises all employees in the Nursing Department
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities: interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; making decisions in emergency situations and being accountable for decision making
  • Provides leadership, support and participation in facility meetings
  • Maintains safe environment through strict enforcement of all Infection Control policies and monitoring of effective and safe housekeeping practices
  • Ensuring 24-hour provision of nursing services within federal, state and facility requirements based on acuity of residents
  • Cooperates in the formulation of policies and practices established by the facility Administrator
  • Defines and interprets these to the Department of Nursing
  • Plans with Medical Staff and Department heads for coordination of services and activities
  • Meets all new patients in timely way
  • Holds monthly staff meetings accessible to all shifts (e.g., conducts systems reviews with nursing personnel to provide input and feedback on progress of assigned responsibilities)
  • Uses Clinical Observation tool four times a year (quarterly) for all clinical employees to provide ongoing assessment and feedback of performance (e.g., evaluating and identifying nursing personnel for development and/or educational need; monitoring nursing personnel performance and providing counseling and/or disciplinary action as situation warrants; making recommendations to Administrator if further disciplinary action is needed.)
  • Scheduling daily rounds to see all residents, coordinating services, identifying problems, initiating corrective action and monitoring follow up
  • Reviewing daily assignment of Nursing Department
  • Developing and maintaining a budget for nursing services as defined by facility’s budget
  • Initiates studies to evaluate effectiveness of nursing services in relation to their objectives and costs

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/ Licensure:

Graduate of approved RN Program and licensed by the State of CA

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

Advanced education in principles of management as well as geriatrics/DON Certification

Experience/Skills:

Previous experience supervising as a DON, ADON or Nursing Manager

3-5 years’ experience in providing direct care in a SNF or LTC setting

Must be knowledgeable of nursing practices, procedures, terminology, laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care/Skilled Nursing/Rehabilitaion
