SUMMARY

Responsible for providing academic instruction to children in a year-round partial hospitalization school setting. The Teacher may be called upon to provide therapeutic interventions at any time.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Contributes to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for our clients, colleagues and community partners from diverse backgrounds and experiences.
  • Integrates principles of Trauma Informed Care in all aspects of work.
  • Is sensitive to the children’s culture and socioeconomic characteristics that delivers the best possible care to the youth and families served.
  • Implements all academic components within the classroom to include following the specified curriculum and benchmarks as set forth by St. Vincent Family Center.
  • Writes and updates IEPs for students on caseload.
  • Holds meetings for updates, transitions, or other district needs for special education students.
  • Writes progress notes every 4.5 or 9 weeks for IEPs.
  • Maintains student data for goals on IEPs for students on caseload.
  • Communicates with parents, on an as needed basis, regarding student/client academic concerns.
  • Tracks absences and tardiness of students/client.
  • Completes and disseminates grade cards four (4) times per year.
  • Conducts a minimum of two (2) Parent-Teacher conferences during the school year.
  • Makes recommendations to the psychologist regarding further student/client testing (i.e. if the child needs an IEP).
  • Collect data and documentation then communicates as an active member of the treatment team.
  • Attend development classes as requested by supervisors.
  • Assists the Adaptive Behavioral Specialist with mental health interventions, as needed.
  • Implements and uses trauma informed care services.
  • Is sensitive to the cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the children and families served.
  • Performs general office duties to include, filing, copying, faxing and customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned or requested.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in education is required. Master's in special education is preferred. Current Ohio special education/intervention specialist licensure in pk-3 is required/k-12 preferred.

Language Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Must also have the ability to communicate with diverse audiences both internal and external to the agency.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts using basic math skills.

Technical Skills: Proficiency with MS office products to include Outlook.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to communicate sensitive information to client families and employees. Ability to complete and turn in paperwork in a timely fashion. Ability to complete, interpret and respond to clinical documentation inquiries. Ability to maintain high degree of empathy and compassion in meeting the needs of our clients and client families. Ability to build strong bonds with employees and managers to foster open, honest and candid communication. Ability to multi-task and maintain organization in a fast paced, changing environment. Ability to create and maintain highest levels of confidentiality when dealing with client information, SVFC proprietary information and sensitive situations. Ability to manage change in an organization reengineering its culture and approach to workload management. Ability to work and contribute as member of team.
