ABOUT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES BAY AREA

Ronald McDonald House Charities Bay Area (RMHC Bay Area) envisions a world where all children have access to health care and their families are fully supported and actively involved in their care. RMHC Bay Area supports more than 4,000 children and their families annually through three Ronald McDonald Houses, two Ronald McDonald Care Mobiles, a Ronald McDonald House School, as well as regional food insecurity programs, alternative housing support, psycho-social and respite programs and specialized programming delivered on site inside area pediatric hospitals.


JOB SUMMARY

Three Days a Week 3:30 pm – 8:30 pm (15 hours)

Four Days a Week 3:30 pm – 8:30 pm (20 hours)

 

The Programs Department is looking for passionate, versatile Youth Program Associates to develop creative, participatory, and safe programs for children and teens during their stay at Ronald McDonald House at Stanford. Ideal candidates are in search of opportunities to apply child development knowledge and project management interest within a rapidly growing, family-centered environment. Moreover, they possess the imagination and motivation needed to build exciting new opportunities into our calendar of youth programs.

The facilitations of play and recreation provides substantial support for the overall wellbeing of families. Engaging youth activities offer a welcome distraction from time spent at the hospital and allows for a sense of normalcy when far from home. For parents, youth programs offer space and time for rest and reflection. Youth Program Associates are vital collaborators in the behind-the-scenes and on-the-ground efforts to make these moments possible.


This is a part-time, non-exempt position reporting to the Family Programs Coordinator. This role requires working some weekends and holidays.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement engaging programs to enhance a sense of community, support, and recreation for youth staying at Ronald McDonald House at Stanford
  • Develop and implement appropriate policies, procedures and guidelines to achieve a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, including infection control, COVID-19 precautions, security, emergency response and healthy boundaries.
  • Manage all aspects of volunteer support for designated activity rooms including supervision, onboarding, and training.
  • Support planning and preparations for summer and winter break camp programs.
  • Manage relevant supply inventories.
  • Support holiday and special celebrations such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Halloween, Back-to-School giveaway, etc.
  • Assist special programs volunteers such as bingo, massage therapy, haircuts, pet therapy, shopping trips, etc.
  • Coordinate via phone and/or email with community volunteer groups to plan their visits and promote such visits to the families.
  • Ensure all youth program activity rooms are clean, safe, and orderly at all times.
  • Track program impact statistics for annual report

QUALIFICATIONS AND PREREQUISITE

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.A. in Early Childhood Education or equivalent preferred, undergraduate students welcome to apply.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking preferred.
  • Experience working with children and families.
  • Experience developing and/or executing youth-focused programs.
  • Experience interacting with people from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Highly customer service oriented with enthusiasm and good sense of humor.
  • Excellent organizational and program solving skills.
  • Strong attention to details.
  • Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of House families and related reports and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface comfortably and professionally with members of the public and staff.
  • Ability to work in a semi-medical environment with children being treated with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

OTHER:

  • Computer literate with MS Office suite of products on PC.
  • Certified in Adult & Pediatric CPR, First Aid and AED (or ability to get certified)
  • Valid CA driver’s License
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds
  • Must be fully vaccinated (Including booster, if eligible)
