Job Description

At Trident Systems' Space Electronic Systems (SES) division, we believe in the power of using strong engineering principles to drive innovation and solve complex problems. We foster a culture of rigorous engineering and continuous improvement, leveraging the full knowledge of our organization through collaborative development processes that include design and peer reviews. We combine our expertise in space electronics with right-sized development processes to create innovative, high-performance space-based electronic systems that meet our customers' evolving needs.

We are a mission partner supporting DoD, Intelligence, and Civil space customers. We develop complex radiation effects mitigated designs that balance competing requirements in modern space programs, delivering cutting-edge solutions that enable our customers to achieve more in space.

We are looking for a hardware design engineer to support the following functions:

• Design, implement, and test mixed-signal Printed Circuit Board (PCB) and Printed Circuit Assembly (PCA) utilizing High Density Interconnect (HDI) PCBs and high-speed (> 1 GHz) components and circuits

• Block diagram and architecture design

• Schematic capture and circuit analysis

• PCB layout and routing

• PCA integration, test, and debug

• Complete full lifecycle design in one or more areas related to embedded hardware design and electronics design such as:

• FPGA / signal processing PCAs with tightly coupled memory interfaces

• High-speed (Gsps) data capture and conversion (ADC/DAC) PCAs

• High-speed (> 1 Gbps) interconnect or backplane PCAs

• High-speed (> 1 GHz) clock distribution and synchronization

• Support and enhance existing embedded hardware primarily at the PCB and PCA level

• Support interfacing disciplines such as mechanical, RF, software, firmware, and project management

Education/Certification: Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering or related field

Years of Experience: Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience with embedded hardware design

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout using Altium design tools within IPC standards

• Experience in the hardware development process including requirements specification, characterization, simulation, high-speed digital design, signal processing, schematic capture, layout, routing, testing, and integration

• Demonstrated mixed-signal PCA development experience from concept to delivery utilizing High Density Interconnect (HDI) PCBs and high-speed (> 1 GHz) components and circuits

• Experience with circuit simulation and circuit analysis using PSpice, LTspice, or similar

• Experience with hardware integration, test, and debug tools (digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, emulators)

• Experience with hardware engineering processes and standards

• Experience with product configuration management systems

• Proven communication/interpersonal skills and ability to be a strong team player

• Ability to be granted a security clearance

Desired:

• Experience with Xilinx family devices, including Zynq UltraScale+ or Versal architecture, highly desired

• Knowledge of NVMe, PCI, PCIe, cPCI, VME, and VPX standards (VITA 46 and VITA 65) and demonstrated experience implementing in embedded hardware designs

• Experience with design for extremely demanding/rugged environments (e.g., high temp, shock/vibe, etc.)

• Experience with signal integrity tools/techniques using Keysight ADS or similar

• Experience with power integrity tools/techniques using Keysight ADS or similar

• Experience with writing test software in Python, C/C++, or assembly language to test hardware

• Experience with FPGA and microprocessor development including hardware descriptor languages (e.g. Verilog, VHDL)
