Position summary

The Physician plays a vital role in providing comprehensive care for individuals with mental health needs in a Partial Hospitalization Day Program setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatry or internal medicine, a commitment to person-centered care, and a collaborative approach to treatment.

Primary duties & responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments to evaluate the mental health status of consumers entering the PHP.

  • Diagnose and formulate treatment plans based on DSM-5 criteria and collaborate with the treatment team for comprehensive care.

  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, ensuring appropriate dosages and monitoring for efficacy and side effects.

  • Collaborate with nursing staff to educate consumers on medication management and adherence.

  • Work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary treatment team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans for consumers.

  • Monitor and adjust treatment plans as needed, ensuring continuity of care.

  • Provide clinical guidance and supervision to other members of the treatment team, including nurse practitioners and therapists.

  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and contribute to the development of treatment protocols.

  • Respond to and manage psychiatric crises promptly and effectively, collaborating with the treatment team to ensure consumer safety and stabilization.

  • Educate consumers and their families on mental health conditions, treatment options, and strategies for managing symptoms.

  • Promote engagement and empowerment in their recovery process.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Collaborate with the administrative team to ensure timely completion of required documentation.

Experience and Professional Qualifications

  • Medical degree (MD or DO) with specialization in psychiatry or internal medicine.

  • Board certification in psychiatry or internal medicine.

  • Current and unrestricted medical license in the state of Virginia.

  • Experience in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuous learning.
