Department: Cardiopulmonary Services
FTE (Full Time Equivalent): Part Time (.6) 24 hours per week
Hours
- Monday- Friday: 7:00am-3:30pm; 3:00pm-11:30pm
- Every 3rd weekend rotation: 7:00am-3:30pm
- occasional on call rotation required
Job Description
Respiratory Therapist (RT ) will be responsible for efficiently and effectively administer all modes of respiratory care as well as other cardiopulmonary services to all ranges of patient’s infants to adults. Modalities include but are not limited to oxygen administration, nebulizer treatment, postural drainage and percussion, ventilator management, CPAP/BIPAP, pulmonary rehab, pulmonary function testing, EKGs and other specialized diagnostic studies.
Essential Functions
Relationships
- Works closely with Physicians/Providers and Nursing staff.
- Requires ability to advise and work with care providers in offering optimal respiratory care.
- Requires very good communication skills and cooperative work ethic.
Records and reporting
- Responsible for daily shift reports and maintaining daily patient log sheet.
- Accurate documentation accurately all information necessary into electronic medical record.
- Completes all charges for services in electronic medical records.
- Works with director in obtaining Performance improvement data when needed.
Equipment
- Therapists must be proficient in the operation of equipment.
- Responsible for the proper use and care of equipment.
- Maintain equipment and requests repairs or replacements as necessary.
- Maintains inventory of supplies necessary to operate department services.
- Attendance in all in-services and training sessions on new equipment.
- Responsible for cleaning and proper assembly of equipment used in department.
- Will follow hospital infection control policies and cleaning guidelines.
Services
- Work activities range from departmental skills to professional skills.
- Patient treatment is diversified according to diagnosis and individual needs.
- Therapist must be able to utilize evaluations and treatment techniques in a formal standardized format or policy and procedure.
- Must be able to handle emergent patient care situations.
- Therapist must be able to complete job tasks consistently on a timely basis for organizational, departmental and patient needs.
- Utilizes judgment to set priority, delegate’s tasks and manages time consistently in order to complete patient and departmental responsibilities.
- Responsible for efficiently and effectively administering all forms of respiratory treatments
- Responsible for charge rounds and equipment management.
Other Duties
- Performs other duties as requested.
- Participate in departmental staff meetings and required trainings.
- Demonstrates ability to use equipment relevant to position.
Qualifications
- The Respiratory Therapist must be a graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Care approved by the American Medical Association.
License or Certification
- Credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- Current State of Minnesota Respiratory Therapist license.
- Current BLS and ACLS
