Position Summary

The Production Superintendent is responsible for the overall plant production performance by providing effective leadership, direction, training, and supervision to all four shifts of the Production team, ensuring there is alignment and consistency. The Production Superintendent collaborates with Quality, Maintenance, Shipping and Sanitation to meet the plant’s key performance indicators. This position is responsible for consistently managing production operations to achieve the company’s goals, satisfy customer requirements, meet government regulations, and achieve safety, quality, service, productivity/cost, and morale standards.

Essential Job Functions
  • Manages overall production deliverables including staff performance and production goals to meet World Class standards (quality, safety, cost, sanitation, productivity, efficiency, morale). Resolves production, maintenance & sanitation issues, on both night shifts, as they arise.
  • Maintains facility labor standards. Assures and predicts appropriate staffing levels for efficient operations through hiring, training, cross training, and scheduling of employees. Prepares weekly crewing schedule.
  • Adheres to and administers fairly and consistent policies to production personnel.
  • Supervises and ensures employees follow proper General Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Lock-out/tag-out, HACCP, SQF, HAZCOM and other safety criteria.
  • Uses the Standard Work as a guide to meet daily requirements. Updates direct reports standard work to meet company needs.
  • Ensures Integrated Process Management (IPM) processes are accurately and consistently adhered to and that the IPM functional teams meet and achieve the required improvements weekly.
  • Works with other departments to coordinate production activities and accomplish plant goals.
  • Communicates with Production & Maintenance Supervisors to ensure efficient use of resources and that production goals are being met.
  • Serves as a point of contact and reliable resource for all employee and team needs including timely and meaningful follow-up to all questions, concerns & ideas, and being visible, accessible, and approachable in the eyes of employees.
  • Identifies area-specific process improvement activities including identification of opportunities, project planning and execution.
  • Provide leadership to night shift production supervisors which includes; demonstrating a positive, respectful, resilient and results oriented approach, conducting performance management activities, individual skill development and approving time off requests for Night Shift Production Supervisors.
  • Ensures Supervisors are verifying attendance points and generating attendance corrective actions.
  • Provides direction or follow-up assistance related to disciplinary actions and resolution.
  • Addresses and resolves conflicts within the team or between individuals.
  • Identifies opportunities to increase the team’s effectiveness including specific skill training (IPM, SPC’s, Root cause analysis, 5S, etc.), goal setting, including rewarding and recognizing the team’s progress.
  • Assists with the implementation of new products and/or processes as needed.
  • Works with other department managers, supervisors, and employees to minimize downtime, waste, and equipment failures.
  • Ensures accuracy of daily production results and data entry into QAD, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
  • Ensures that ingredient inventory accuracy levels in QAD are managed and kept to a minimum variance.
  • Tracks and reports production incidents and food safety incidents including documentation, investigations, and corrective action to prevent future incidents.
  • Tracks production expenses against budget weekly and reports data to Production Manager.
  • Assists with plant trials and coordination activities.
  • Works weekends as needed to provide direction and assistance with production, maintenance, sanitation and is available for all shifts to address production issues.

Education/Training

Required:

  • BA/BS in Food Science, Engineering, Business and/or related program or substitution of 8 years of experience in a Manager or Superintendent role.
Experience/Knowledge/Abilities

Required:

  • 8 years of operations or production experience to include 5 or more years in management or similar capacity.
  • Experience working in Food Manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication, teamwork, and partnership skills.
  • Ability to effectively resolve conflict and manage challenging situations.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office products, and MPR/ERP systems
  • Solid team leadership experience and demonstrated effectiveness in a leadership role.
  • Solid judgment, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience providing performance feedback and working with employees to improve performance.

Preferred:

  • 10 to 12 years operations or production experience including management experience.
  • Spanish speaking skills
