Job Summary

The Community Outreach Coordinator supports the Algonkian District Office through building and maintaining external relationships with the community and taking a leading role in communications. This includes, but is not limited to, developing relationships with local organizations, social media management, scheduling, and constituent relations. The ideal candidate has a strong interest in public policy and community outreach. This candidate will report to the Chief of Staff and will work closely with the Legislative Aide. This position is full-time 37.5 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours will be required. The position coincides with the Algonkian District Supervisor term which expires on December 31, 2027. Extension to 2028 is contingent on election.

Responsibilities and Duties:
* Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, nonprofits, local businesses, faith-based organizations, and other constituencies.
* Staff Supervisor at events, including capturing photos, networking, and tracking follow-up needs.
* Manage social media content and support drafting weekly email newsletter with close coordination with chief-of-staff and legislative aide.
* Support creation of online imagery/graphics/content for a variety of social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
* Communicate policy actions and decisions by the Board of Supervisors to residents through multiple platforms.
* Support constituent services casework by communicating with county agencies on behalf of residents.
* Support scheduling duties and management of office calendar.
* Policy research as assigned.
* Administrative duties as assigned.
* Occasional evening and weekend hours will be required.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience

Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
Education level: Undergraduate degree in communications, public policy, political science, journalism, or related fields.
Experience: 1-3 years community outreach, communications, social media, executive assistant, and/or other relevant experience preferred.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements

Specific Skills: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite of programs required. Experience with social media platforms and graphic design platforms preferred.

Personal characteristics: Preferred candidate is pro-active and will bring new ideas to discussions. They will be comfortable working in a high-pressure and fast-paced environment. Additionally, they should be comfortable engaging with diverse people and views as this is often a public-facing role. Preferred candidates must be detail-oriented and proficient in multi-tasking as they are expected to manage multiple projects at a time. Preferred candidates must be comfortable speaking on behalf of the Supervisor and able to think quickly on their feet. Candidates must be comfortable with a non-traditional 9-5 role, including working occasional evenings and weekends.
