THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Medical Records Assistant for the Department of Corrections, you will be responsible for preparation, classification, and abstracting of medical reports for your assigned Institution. You will be creating medical records for individual inmates, filing medical reports in inmate medical records, compiling all inmate medical records for transfer, and assisting in medical department related data entry.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (37.50 hours per week)
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please note, selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $39,003.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of clerical experience in a medical records department of a hospital, or ambulatory acute medical care setting or a licensed nursing facility, which has included six months of experience under the general direction or oversight by a registered Medical Records Technician or Administrator; and graduation from high school; or
  • Graduation from a medical secretarial or medical records program; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
