DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position is specifically assigned to the Pittsburgh office and reports directly to the Air Quality Operations Chief. You are responsible for ensuring that all activities of the Air Quality program are conducted in accordance with the Pennsylvania Air Pollution Control Act, departmental regulations concerning air resources, and regional policies. You will also ensure that all required field work and corresponding written documentation is completed by the inspectors. This includes various inspections, such as compliance monitoring, source observations, permit renewals, enforcement activities, emission inventory maintenance, complaint handling, ambient sampling, and asbestos NESHAP work. Additionally, you will maintain regular communication with the staff to ensure their full understanding of Departmental policies and initiatives, enabling them to effectively incorporate them into their daily tasks.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.
  • Travel required for site visits.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as an Air Quality Specialist; or
  • One year of experience as an Air Monitoring Program Supervisor; or
  • Three years of professional work in the control and abatement of air pollution and a Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or an environmental field closely related to Air Quality Management; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and/or training.

Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
