Benefits Administrator Overview:

The Benefits Administrator is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering the organization's benefits.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Manages and administers domestic and international employee benefit programs including group medical, dental, vision, prescription, disability, group life, AD&D, EAP, 401(k), and flexible spending account (FSA) programs.
  • Conducts research on various benefit program enhancements for domestic and international employee benefit programs and makes recommendations to executive management in collaboration with the HR Vice President.
  • Collaborates with the HR Vice President, in management of benefit programs ensuring cost effectiveness and competitiveness of the company's position in the labor market and a uniform benefit package for all company locations, where possible.
  • Serves as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators.
  • Ensures compliance with provisions of various State and Federal regulatory agencies by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of legal requirements and makes recommendations for any necessary changes.
  • Manages processes for enrollments, COBRA, FMLA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, distributions, hardships, and compliance testing.
  • Manages open enrollment and program implementation processes.
  • Responsible for benefit related reports, benefit related communications to employees, management of SPDs, open enrollment, benefit orientations, and benefit plan audits.
  • Responsible for effective communications of organization's benefit programs.
  • Oversees reconciliation and preparation of all billings related to benefit plans to ensure accurate and timely payment.
  • Oversees maintenance of employee benefits files, and collaborates with Payroll regarding any benefit related payroll documents.
  • Manages complex vendor relationships and processes and is responsible for overseeing all implementations of changes to benefit programs or services.
  • Exhibits a strong focus on customer service and continuous process improvement activities in relation to the day-to-day operations of the benefit functions to ensure process effectiveness.
  • Implements and monitors adherence to employee benefit policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Provides necessary backup through cross training for other HR staff members in order to provide optimal HR support to internal and external customers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • The Benefits Administrator does not have any direct reports. However, it is responsible for supervision of all benefit processes. In addition, this position is also responsible for mentoring and coaching junior HR team members on work related to benefit processes.
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with the Service Contract Act, Davis Bacon, and Union Collective Bargaining Agreements preferred.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of employee benefit program principles and practice.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • This position performs work with a high degree of latitude handling the most complex benefit issues. Good judgement and excellent troubleshooting skills are required.
  • Must be able to understand and develop relevant mathematical and/or statistical concepts related to various benefit scenarios. This position requires a thorough understanding of all legal and regulatory requirements for the company's benefit programs.
  • Must be able to manage internal and external audits of various benefit plans and work with third party administrators and/or outside consultants to ensure compliance with all applicable laws. In addition, must have experience working with third party administrators and resolving disputes with employee benefit claims.
  • This position requires the incumbent to demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving skills, innovation, attention to detail, organizational skills, and an ability to manage multiple complex projects at one time. Must have the ability to effectively present information to management, public groups and employees.
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Suite of products including, Word, Excel, Access and E-mail business software.
  • Must demonstrate a good attitude and ability to work as a member of a Team.
  • Position requires self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under a minimum of supervision.
  • Must be able to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects and have a strong attention for detail.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) or similar industry certification preferred.

Work Environment:

General office environment. Some travel both domestically and internationally required based on business demands. With hybrid work schedule option.

Pay Range:

85-90K
