DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This Veterans Education Advisor Supervisor position directs and manages a professional and clerical staff for the State Approving Agency (SAA) and provides the necessary guidance to increase GI Bill utilization through outreach activities. You will provide technical knowledge, supervision, and leadership necessary to approve programs and examinations and ensure the continued participation of institutions, training establishments, licensure and certification agencies, and business organizations in the veterans and military education programs. This position assigns work to staff, provides oversight and training as needed, and implements and develops problem solving strategies. You will also have the opportunity to participate in national meetings and workshops for the Department of Veterans Affairs and assist the division chief as liaison between SAA and other state, federal, or local agencies. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, reporting to the office once per month, as directed by the Division Chief. Additional in-office days may be required, as directed by the Division Chief. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Pittsburgh.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Veterans Education Advisor; or
  • Six years of professional experience in education, vocational education, or educational administration or closely related experience involving planning or conducting training or educational programs in industry, government, or schools, including one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity, and a bachelor's degree; or
  • Five years of professional experience in education, vocational education, or educational administration or closely related experience involving planning or conducting training or educational programs in industry, government, or schools, including one year in a supervisory or administrative capacity, and a master's degree.
