The Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Administration is looking for a Safety Compliance Officer to join their team of investigative professionals. If you are interested in a fast-paced career involving technical and complex investigatory work for the Vermont Department of Labor, then this position is for you. This position requires the ability to interpret and enforce laws and regulations, pertaining to the Vermont Occupational Safety and Health Act (VOSHA). Duties involve the identifying and investigating of safety and health hazards in the workplace, recommending abatement procedures, overseeing corrective action, and imposing fines. Work is performed in an assigned geographic area and in some instances statewide while under the general supervision of the Occupational Safety Compliance Chief.

Duties are generally performed in a field setting on the premises of Vermont employers. Considerable travel is involved requiring private means of transportation. There may be some degree of exposure to dangerous situations at work sites. Incumbents may be required to work on ladders or in confined spaces. Interaction with employers and employees is frequent and may involve strong adversary situations.
High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of work experience in a plant safety program, industrial engineering, plant maintenance engineering, or industrial work.
OR
Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, industrial management or closely related field.
