Job Announcement

The Providence District Supervisor's office is seeking a Staff Aide to work with current staff, county agencies, and constituents across multiple policy areas. Our office provides support for Supervisor Dalia A. Palchik who represents Providence District on the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. This individual would work alongside the seven current staffers providing public service for the more than 120,000 residents of the district and the associated stakeholders who serve their needs.

Special Requirements: Ability to work outside of normal business hours, as required. Strong written and interpersonal skills are required. The successful candidate is expected to use discretion and be able to work independently.

Location: This position is located at the Jim Scott Community Center, 3001 Vaden Dr, Fairfax, VA 22031

Illustrative Duties
  • Review, research, and maintain policy, legislative, and other materials for the District Supervisor.
  • Provide staff support for board meetings and committees, including evening and weekend meetings and events.
  • Collaborate with staff to plan and execute community events, special projects, and meetings.
  • Correspond and meet with residents, County agencies, and outside organizations via e-mail, video call, phone, or in person.
  • Work closely with the Chief of Staff to craft messaging and outreach strategies related to the general public and target audiences.
  • Routinely create and maintain content for social media platforms, and track news media mentions.
  • Supervise and assist with administrative and office responsibilities as additional needs arise.
Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience, education, or training or any combination in areas of public policy, communications, public administration, political science, business administration, liberal arts, or other related fields, in addition to competency with office productivity programs.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
  • Due to the scope and responsibilities associated with the position, the appointee must be willing and able to work some evening and occasional weekend hours.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The preferred candidate must possess patience and skill in interpersonal interactions and should be able to demonstrate experience and success working in a professional environment both independently and with a group. A preferred candidate should also be familiar with the field of public service and the role and scope of local government, in addition to policy perspectives and current events. Exceptional and demonstrable written and verbal communications skills are essential, and fluency in Spanish is a plus. Organization and the ability to remain organized while balancing priorities is also a helpful skill.

Note: While residents of the Providence District or those willing to move to the district after employment are preferred, it is not required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position will require use of a vehicle to attend events outside of the office; may require lifting up to 20 pounds. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
