Position
We are seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Equipment Operator/ Field Laborer that will strengthen and support our community.
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled and or skilled manual labor in the maintenance and repair of District roads and the public right-of-way, either independently or as a member of a crew.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Operates heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of public roadways. Inspects equipment daily to ensure proper operating conditions.
· Cleans debris from ditches, culverts, and creek beds; collects and hauls trash, garbage, debris, dirt, sand and gravel; loads and unloads equipment, materials and supplies.
· Performs additional construction and maintenance tasks in assigned maintenance area including street maintenance, or other assigned areas; performs special projects, raking, tree trimming, sign installations, trash removal, etc.
· Performs asphalt related repairs including grinding, patching, and paving.
· Maintains logs and records as required.
· Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
· On-call for emergency services pertaining to roadways.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Two years of equipment operation experience.
Training:
High School diploma or equivalent.
Licenses and Certifications
· Class A or B CDL license desirable but not required
Knowledge of:
· Operational characteristics of a variety of light and heavy equipment used in street and utility maintenance and construction.
· Operations and maintenance requirements of power-driven equipment.
· Practices, methods and materials used in general construction and maintenance work including streets, utilities, sidewalks, landscape and related areas.
· Methods and techniques of performing basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
· Safe working practices as they relate to the operation of construction equipment.
· Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Ability to:
· Operate a Backhoe/Excavator of all sizes in a safe and effective manner
· Clean and maintain equipment in proper operating condition.
· Work independently in the absence of supervision.
· Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
· Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
· Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.
· Set grade/slope using laser and other applicable methods
· Grade using skip loader and skid steer
· Safely trench in roadways abiding by all applicable OSHA guidelines and safety practices
· Traffic control experience
