Convenience Store Clerk

Overview:

The convenience store clerk will sell, distribute, and market store items and related products in a manner that will optimize the cooperative’s market share and savings, improve the cooperative’s efficiency, help achieve the cooperative’s mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service.

Essential Duties:

  • Providing a customer friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge, and all other components of customer service.
  • Maintaining property, facilities, and equipment.
  • Following all company policies as written in the policy manual as well as retail SOPs.
  • Attending all store/staff meetings as directed.
  • Collecting cash, checks, credit cards or charge payments from customer and making change for cash transactions.
  • Filling Propane bottles and lifting hoses to fill RV’s.
  • Answering phones as needed.
  • Assisting in floor moves, merchandising, display maintenance and store housekeeping.
  • Stocking, pricing, and rotating all food merchandise and assisting with the store inventory.
  • Maintaining a clean and neat appearance for all areas of the store.
  • Dating food, checking for expiration and freshness dates and rotating as needed.
  • Following daily checkout procedures to assist in daily balancing of cash drawers.
  • Assisting in other areas/departments of the store as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic math skills. Knowledge of and the ability to use a point-of-sale system.


Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are represented of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk, and hear. Must be able to stand for 4 hours at a time. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, kneel, crouch or crawl, taste, and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to lift 40 regularly and 50 occasionally. A portion of the work time is outdoors where temperatures can be extreme.

This position does require a pre-hire, post-offer criminal background check, and a drug screen.
