POSITION

Blue Cliff College is seeking a College Algebra Instructor. Under the direction of the Director of Education, the instructor is responsible for the success of students under their supervision, according to program objectives and course syllabi. This individual must be highly knowledgeable about the subject matter for the specific course that they are assigned to teach and maintain expertise in the subject area and support student success by all means that are necessary, appropriate, and available. The person in this position will also respond to student questions and provide feedback on assignments, actively monitor and track individual student progress, and provide mediation and direction as needed.

JOB DUTIES

  • Teach material from approved curriculum in accordance with assigned course schedule.
  • Motivate students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process, including but not limited to class discussions, outside assignments/projects, research, enrichment activities, etc.
  • Maintain communication with students in discussions to assist them in achieving completion objectives.
  • Respond in a clear and well-expressed manner to student questions and inquiries.
  • Provide regular, accurate, and timely student-specific assistance, feedback, and support to students relative to their performance.
  • Keep archives of student work and correspondence (if necessary) and maintain and report student participation, evaluations/grades as appropriate.
  • Communicate with all students and staff via e-mail and telephone as needed.
  • Openly communicate with faculty and staff regarding course and student-related problems and concerns.
  • Be knowledgeable about the job requirements by reading and abiding by the instructor’s manual.
  • Other tasks as assigned. 
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of instructional theory, basic education principles, practices and methodologies, the developmental process, competency-based curricula, and general classroom and lab/clinic practices.
  • Knowledge on how to formulate and articulate policies, procedures, expectations, and practices.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematical skills such as percentages, fractions, etc.
  • Working knowledge of modern office practices and procedures, including applicable computer operations and software and student record programs.
  • Possess good organizational skill and knowledge of record keeping procedures, including the ability to collect and organize data and information.
  • Possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possess sound instructional skills.
  • Able to exercise sound judgment and be able to develop programs and curricula to meet industry needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain appropriate levels of authority as well as creating an atmosphere of support and confidence for students.
  • Ability to multi-task and juggle competing priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, peers, and community.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to work with professional integrity and discretion.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Master’s Degree with 15 credits in subject taught.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of direct or closely-related work experience.
  • Some level of teaching or training experience is preferred.

COMPENSATION

In the spirit of pay transparency, we can share that the pay range for this position is $25.00-35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience]. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the position. If you are hired, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
