We are currently seeking a Full Time Finisher with experience to join our team!

Position Summary: The Finisher is responsible for preparing, sanding and executing finishing process. Using solvents and tools to customize furniture and other wood products. Initiating the final stage of the production process by sanding, shaping, and applying stains, top coats and/or wood sealants to custom designed millwork. Perform final finish and/or touch up of high end millwork to specified colors and finishes.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Assemble, sand and finish items to prepare them for finishing using hand tools and other machinery.
  • Setting up and operating a variety of woodworking and finishing machinery
  • Operate and maintain all equipment to include, but not limited to: sanding machine, vacuum sanding bench, intake air make-up unit, exhaust spray booths, paint room locker, air assisted airless and airless, pressure pots, gravity feed guns, mini mixer, pneumatic drill press mixer, air turbine sprayer, pneumatic sanders, and polishers.
  • Proper removal of accessories and masking areas that should not be exposed to finishing process or substance(s).
  • Smooth, shape, and touch up surfaces in preparation for finishing using sandpaper, pumice stones, steel wool, chisels, sanders, or grinders.
  • Selection of appropriate finishing ingredients such as paint, stain, lacquer, shellac or varnish depending on factors such as wood hardness and surface type.
  • Accurately mixing and preparation of finish ingredients to obtain desired colors, shades and finishes.
  • Follow blueprints to produce specific designs and specifications of production requirements.
  • Brush, spray, or hand rub finishing ingredients such as paint, oil, stain or wax into wood grain.
  • Applying appropriate lacquer, top coating or other sealers.
  • Remove excess solvent or finishing products to ensure product quality and desired finish.
  • Trouble shooting of processes pertaining to finishing and equipment maintenance
  • Responsible for all Material Tickets for pulled/returned materials used to finish the product.
  • Ensures consistent high standards, accuracy, and superior quality at all times.
  • Maintains productivity, efficient time management, schedule, timeliness, is reliable and demonstrates initiative.
  • Maintains equipment and appropriate handling of hazardous materials at all times.
  • Maintains organized work area, neat and clean
  • All other duties and tasks as assigned

Skills and Requirements:

  • Ability to read and understand shop and architectural drawings
  • Basic woodworking knowledge, Architectural woodwork, and knowledge of different wood species
  • Application of Chemical Coatings
  • Ability to operate and maintain finish equipment and accurately use Spray Equipment
  • Effective communication skills, ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to work and interact well wot co-workers and other SSM staff and vendors
  • Knowledge of A.W.I system preferred

Physical Ability:

  • Ability to lift and carry moderate to heavy objects of 50lbs independently
  • Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time
  • Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions

Education and Experience Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 2-5 Years finish preparation and/or finish experience
  • Proficient in chemistry and mathematics
  • Experience with architectural woodwork
  • Wood repair and touch up experience
