Lab Technician- Fashion Department, PT


The Fashion Department at CCAD is looking for a part-time Lab Technician who will provide technical support within the fashion department of the college. Reporting directly to the Lab & Studio Manager, this position will also coordinate their work with the Fashion Department Chair. This position will assist with providing support and direction of work for the student employees who assist the Lab Tech with the day-to-day operations of the fashion labs and classroom. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Oversees all sewing and dye labs:
    • Sewing machine upkeep (oil machines, light repairs)
    • General upkeep of ironing stations (maintenance of irons and upkeep of tables)
    • General organization and upkeep of dye lab
    • General organization and upkeep of resource room and supply closets
  • Manages Fabric Printer:
    • Monitors supplies, maintenance, and repair
    • Works with students to prepare materials needed to print fabric
    • Prints yardage as needed
  • Implements and supervises regular scheduled cleaning and organization of the studio facilities
  • Trains fashion student employees on various studio tasks
  • Advises students on technical matters as needed during contact hours
  • Other duties as assigned

This candidate can work up to 20 hours a week. The schedule is flexible but may require some weekend and evening work as needed. The pay rate is $17.51/hour.


QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED required. B.F.A. in fashion design preferred, or equivalent experience in the field of fashion design. The ideal candidate will have a broad knowledge of digital fabric printing, experience in use and repair of industrial sewing and pressing equipment. The individual must have basic computer skills such as an understanding of Microsoft Word and the ability to use email, as well as the ability to multitask. Strong interpersonal and communication skills is expected as the candidate will be reporting to their supervisors and directing student employees on a regular basis.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk or hear, and smell.
  • The employee frequently is required to handle, feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.



COMPENSATION: This position is part-time, non-exempt. Compensation is commensurate on experience and qualifications. 403B retirement voluntary contribution eligibility, campus parking, and free admission to the Columbus Museum of Art.
