Job Description

The Plant Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of plant operations, including production, maintenance, environmental, health, safety, quality, inventory/warehousing management. The Plant Manager is responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable safety and environmental regulations. The Plant Manager must be familiar with all production processes and is responsible for maintaining consistent production. The Plant Manager will have direct supervisory responsibility of the Production Manager, Maintenance Manager, EH&S Manager and Lab Manager.

The Plant Manager will support all policies, goals, and objectives of the company while representing the company knowledgeably and professionally.

Essential Job Functions

  • Leads others: expects, inspects, and coaches. Provides fast feedback. Holds people accountable.
  • Relentlessly pursues being a better-version-of-themselves.
  • Leverages systems to drive behaviors. Identifies the system (or lack of a system) that is creating unwanted behaviors and reengineers (or engineers) the system.
  • Utilizes Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinates all plant operations. Develops and implements operations goals/objectives in support of company strategies.
  • Manages effective departmental budgets. Communicates unanticipated deviations to CEO.
  • Promotes a proactive (vs. reactive) culture.
  • Mentors others to drive knowledge and problem-solving ability throughout operations..
  • Ensures operators/technicians are properly trained through a robust qualification/training process.
  • Diligently seeks root cause. Master of Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
  • Facilitates effective communication and positive working relationships between departments and with peers, superiors and subordinates.
  • Contributes to resolving the bad actors list; tracks failures, root causes, and implements changes to ultimately prevent future occurrences.
  • Inspires others through a shared vision of the future.
  • Drives effective plant shutdowns, completing shutdowns on-time and on-budget.
  • Demands best-in-class creation and use of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistent and steady operation.
  • Works closely with the engineering department to implement and integrate profitability and reliability strategies.
  • Participates in Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board of Directors meetings.
  • Ensures vendors and contractors are qualified to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to retain best-in-class production.
  • Drives effective change through the Management Of Change (MOC) process.
  • Ensures compliance with safety and environmental programs and regulations.
  • Regularly communicates with CEO, often daily.
  • Ensures compliance with policies and procedures and oversees disciplinary action to employees as needed, in coordination with the CEO and Human Resources.
  • Facilitates the performance management process to include conducting performance appraisals and regularly scheduled one-on-one meetings with employees. Documents in the performance management system accordingly.
  • Manages, approves, and monitors employee PTO requests and attendance.
  • Participates in the interview and selection process for new employees.
  • Supports and promotes a positive and cooperative team environment that fosters problem solving, shared learning, and positive moral.
  • Provides back-up for other department personnel as needed.
  • Completes tasks assigned by the CEO along with other duties not listed herein, but which need to be accomplished to maintain safe and productive day-to-day operations within the plant.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all employee records and company matters.
  • Ensures all local, state, and federal regulations are being met at all times.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher (from an accredited school) in the Engineering field.
    1. Bachelor of Science degree or higher (from an accredited school) in Chemical Engineering preferred.
  • 10 years of operations experience in a large-scale industrial, continuous process manufacturing environment.
    1. Experience with processing equipment such as evaporators, heat exchangers, centrifuges, drying equipment, boilers, cooling towers, chiller, air compressors, pumps, valves, electrical circuits, and instrumentation preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in a supervisory/leadership role.
  • Able to read, write, and comprehend the English language.
  • The right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer.

Physical Requirements

  • This position requires walking, standing, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, seeing, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to work around and on industrial equipment.
  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs and ladders up to 200 feet.
  • Ability to work while standing on a continuous basis.
  • Ability to enter confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Must be willing to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, steel-toed boots, and hearing protection.
  • Ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color on a computer monitor.
  • Ability to communicate by using and hearing a 2-way radio system.
  • Ability to respond to and support emergency issues on a 24/7 basis and work outside of normally scheduled hours as needed.
