Operations Superintendent

Overview

The Operations Superintendent is responsible for leading the day-to-day chemical manufacturing operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and compliance with safety and environmental guidelines. This position will also be responsible for developing and maintaining training materials and documentation to support the growth and development of the department. In addition, the Operations Superintendent and will have a department of approximately fifty (50) employees and four (4) direct reports. This position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Supervises activities directly related to the safe and efficient production of products at US Nitrogen, LLC.
  • Responsible for developing shutdown work timeline and schedules.
  • Responsible for ensuring SOP revisions are up to date and correct.
  • Responsible for direct oversight during plant start-up activities.
  • Performs regular plant wide housekeeping needs and audits.
  • Ensures operating procedures and training manuals are updated as needed.
  • Responsible for all aspects of operator training including, safety, PSM, environmental, safe work procedures, operating procedures, and emergency response.
  • Reviews and audits the performance of each operations crew - completion of assigned work, adherence to safe work practices (LOTO, Hot Work, Safe Work Permit, etc.).
  • Reviews inventories, shift logs, process plant logs and other data to measure productivity and to determine areas needing improvement or replenishment.
  • Works alongside Maintenance to ensure that equipment maintenance needs are prioritized and completed.
  • Attends various meeting acting as the liaison between Operations and other support departments.
  • Performs root cause analysis on incident, accidents, and serious process interruptions.
  • Participate in PSM activities including PHA, MOC, PSSR, and Investigations.
  • Manages the Shift Supervisor Vacation Calendar and ensures proper coverage.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • 18+ years of age
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, preferably in chemical manufacturing environment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Requirements

  • Strong understanding of Ammonia, Nitric Acid, and Ammonium Nitrate production.
  • Knowledge of the chemical manufacturing process and equipment.
  • Knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM).
  • Exceptional supervision, leadership, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good time-management and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suites.
  • Must be able to handle confidential matters in a tactful and professional manor.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50Ibs.
  • Ability to wear and perform work in required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Fall protection harness, full-face respirator, chemical resistant suits, face shield, and any other necessary PPE.

Work Environment

US Nitrogen, LLC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This position will be exposed to all elements of the weather on the plant site.
