Job Description

Business Office Manager needed to lead the day to day operations of the medical billing department for our orthopaedic clinic, therapy division, and outpatient surgery center. This position plays an essential role in maintaining company performance, ensuring compliance, and supervising a team of billing staff.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops, implements, monitors, and maintains all billing and collection functions and systems for all health services performed. This includes management of the following functions to ensure they are performed timely and accurately: precertification or authorizations, submission of claims, payment posting, denial/appeal management, coding, and accounts receivable follow-up.
  • Requests, prepares, and maintains reports or audits on billing and collection activities. Monitors and analyzes data to identify areas for improvement in revenue cycle.
  • Manages actions relating to delinquent accounts, collection agencies, special adjustments, and write-offs.
  • Ensures the department is in compliance with all healthcare and government rules and regulations regarding healthcare billing and collections and efficiently manages any patient billing and collections complaints.
  • Supervises, evaluates, trains, and coordinates all employees in the Business Office Services department and oversees these processes for Reception departments.
  • Performs administrative functions such as planning, organizing, managing, prioritizing, budgeting, decision-making and communicating within the departments.
  • Maintains, updates, and shares knowledge in areas of responsibility.
  • Promotes a cooperative team effort, shares knowledge and ideas, encourages others to provide input, and establishes and maintains a productive working relationship with all employees.
  • Personally adhere to the standards, rules, and procedures of the KOC Compliance and HIPAA Programs and ensure department responsibilities are met in support of the organizational commitment to compliance and HIPAA regulations.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Healthcare Administration
  • 3 years experience in healthcare billing and collections; previous functional leadership and staff management exp. required
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare billing and collection processes and authorizations, reimbursement methodologies, and industry regulations; sound knowledge of health insurance providers; understanding of ICD-9, CPT & HCPCS coding
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with providers, administration, and team members
  • Proficiency with healthcare billing systems, experience with EMR and practice management systems
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to work independently with strong decision making and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership abilities with a supportive and effective management style
