Title: Additive Applications Engineering Intern, DMG MORI ADVANCED SOLUTIONS

Reports to: Engineering Manager, DMG MORI ADVANCED SOLUTIONS

Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm

Location: 2400 Huntington Blvd., Hoffman Estates, IL 60192

Classification: Hourly

Travel: N/A

Employment is conditioned on DMG MORI’s ability to obtain and maintain any necessary export licensing.

Essential Job Functions:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily with guidance provided by engineers on staff. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Responsibilities include up to and not limited to:

  • Qualify materials and processes for metal additive manufacturing, including post processing (e.g. heat treatment).
  • Develop parameters for faster, more cost efficient and more reliable additive manufacturing processes (DED and SLM).
  • Analyze material properties in metallurgical laboratory.
  • Identify material trends and evaluate innovative materials for technological advancement.
  • Create CAD models of parts to be produced through additive and/or subtractive machining processes.
  • Setup and operate CNC Machine and Powderbed Fusion 3D printer equipment.
Preferred Requirements:

These are experiences or knowledge that would be ideal for a candidate to have, but which are not all required for a candidate to be considered.

  • Pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited university in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience operating or programming CNC machine tools, LPBF additive machines or DED additive machines.
  • Experience in microstructural analysis and material testing (SEM, optical microscopy, destructive and nondestructive testing, etc.).
  • Computer operation skills including MS Office, CAD, CAM, and simulation and analysis tools.
  • Proven organizational skills, with high attention to detail.
Work Environment:

Manufacturing environment (assembly, machining, and quality control facility) at customer locations or DMG MORI Showrooms. Exposure to possible hazards may include noise, electricity, chemicals, heavy equipment, and other automated and manual machinery. General office environment in the DMG MORI Office.

Physical Demands:

Frequent: sitting at desk utilizing computers and phones, standing, walking.

Periodic: Business travel (domestic/abroad) operating power equipment, utilizing a computer, and phone. Occasional: bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
