Hazen and Sawyer is seeking candidates with 10 - 15 years of experience in planning and design of water-related projects, with a focus on leadership of mid- to large-sized projects. Desired experience will have a focus on treatment facilities and processes, pumping systems and water resources. Candidate to be involved with a wide range of water infrastructure projects, both locally and nationwide. Projects can include treatment process design and construction, water distribution, and wastewater conveyance systems, including pumping and pipelines.

Candidate must have experience in design of wastewater facilities with strong knowledge and background of treatment equipment and pumping systems. Experience should encompass hydraulic evaluations, conceptual/feasibility studies, preparation of design reports, development of construction drawings and specifications, bidding assistance, and support of office and field-related construction services. Experience in managing inter-disciplinary teams across multiple offices to effectively meet the client’s needs is a key characteristic for candidates.

Candidate shall be capable of supervising junior staff and managing projects. Candidate shall also be able to lead business development activities including preparation of proposals and presentations.

Position will include high level of client development and management in our Fairfax, Virginia office. Field work and site visits from planning through construction may be required with occasional travel

Minimum Educational/Licensing Requirements

  • BS degree in environmental, civil, mechanical, or chemical engineering (MS Preferred).
  • A current PE license is required (Virginia preferred or ability to obtain reciprocity within six months of employment)

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • Experience in planning, design, and construction for water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Proficient in all MS Office based computer software
  • Experience in project management required
  • Proficient in English
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills, and be capable of interacting effectively with staff, clients, and regulatory agencies
  • Self-starter with attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
