Overview

The Paralegal will assist attorney(s) by providing clerical and research support services, including document preparation and review; responses to clients as supervised by attorney or from predetermined responses; research, investigations, fact checking, and trial preparation. Perform research to discuss with General Counsel and Management that ensures the organization makes informed decisions after being briefed on legal risks and requirements. Paralegals provide case management, legal research, case-cite verification, blue book citations, and general paralegal support to the office of General Counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Meets with attorneys, clients, and other professionals to discuss assigned refund cases and projects.
  • Conduct due diligence reviews, supporting regulatory and legislative analysis and compliance planning.
  • Researches and analyzes statutes, regulations, legal articles, judicial decisions, and other legal sources; provides written analysis to attorneys.
  • Research factual issues using in-house files and outside reference sources.
  • Compiling information and preparing statistics, charts, graphs, and other summaries to detail findings
  • Organize minute books, exhibits, documents, evidence, briefs, and appendices.
  • Prepares, organizes, stores, and retrieves files, which may include evidence, exhibits, depositions, pleadings, exhibits, and other items.
  • Drafts legal documents including routine pleadings and motions, affidavits, and interrogatories; files motions and pleadings according to judicial procedures
  • Investigate facts and laws of cases and searching public records and other resources to prepare cases and determine causes of action.
  • Drafting board materials (resolutions, minutes, and other corporate governance materials) and assist in addressing comments and questions on board materials from management, auditors, and other reviewers.
  • Conduct refund and privacy claims from members investigations, legal research, and initial case assessments in the context of the contract and international law and make a recommendation to General Counsel about next steps.
  • Maintain records, assist in discussing and drafting basic legal agreements, conduct legal research, and coordinate communications and diligence across the team.
  • Liaise with company officers and outside counsel as necessary.
  • Organize and maintaining documents in an electronic filing system.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Paralegal Studies or related field required, Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate required.
  • 3 years of significant and substantive litigation and/or corporate experience as paralegal/legal assistant in a law firm setting.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of legal language and principles, research methods, court pleadings and processes, and other related matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, and to exercise discretion and good judgment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
