Job Description

Position Overview

The Estimator I is responsible for processing Requests for Quotes (RFQ's) from customers as directed by the Customer Service Representative. The position gathers proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents. The position computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with a Customer Service Representative to facilitate the quote process
  • Assemble and input accurate and well-organized estimates and proposals to quote requests and provide value-engineered options as applicable
  • Analyze architectural drawings and blueprints to review project specifications, ensure correct products and accessories are utilized.
  • Research, review and analyze historical costs of materials, labor costs, produced parts and production times for basis of quoting cost estimates
  • Work internally with various groups to develop estimates of manufacturing costs and prepare internal cost analysis of all products
  • Learn and then consider and incorporate Quaker's margins
  • Timely prepare estimates and Purchase Orders in detail for all products
  • Return completed quotes to customers and sales representatives responsible for account
  • Create & cultivate relationships with current customers and new clients to establish current and future needs
  • Regular logging and documenting in SalesForce system
  • Maintain an organized system for working on multiple quotes at the same time
  • Manage customer projects to ensure deadlines and cost targets are met
  • Communicate with team members regarding new and current projects
  • Answer incoming calls and assist with inside sales responsibilities
  • Perform take offs and revise quote document as needed throughout the estimating stage
  • Follow up on quotes
  • Oversee projects from beginning to completion
  • Prompt and regular attendance at an assigned work location.
  • Interact with employees and customers in an appropriate manner.
  • Confer on site with staff members with whom the employee must interact on a regular basis.
  • Communicate via email and prepare reports.
  • Plan, prioritize and monitor quote activities.
  • Complete assigned tasks/projects in a timely manner.

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct management or supervisory responsibilities.


Safety

Observe safety and security policies and procedures, including proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment); report potentially unsafe conditions; and use equipment and materials properly.


Travel

Minimal travel between Quaker campuses may be required.


Qualifications

An individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Knowledge of Quaker Commercial and Architectural Products, and Accessories preferred
  • Ability to navigate through and use Quaker's Q1 system preferred
  • Familiarity with Dodge and Sales Force systems

Preferred Education and Experience

The expectation is that the individual has achieved a minimum level of education and/or related expertise to qualify for this position.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related business field preferred
  • Minimum 90 Days in a Manufacturing Process or 1-3 years sales experience
  • 3-6 Months Experience as an Estimating Assistant

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday during normal business hours. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

This is primarily an office job and largely a sedentary role with frequent sitting. The position requires the ability to climb stairs, lift files, open filing cabinets, bend or stand as necessary. Vision abilities required by this job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

Although the employee will primarily be in an office setting, while performing the duties of this job, the employee may need to visit the factory and be exposed to climactic variations, fumes or airborne particles, various levels of vibration, and moving mechanical parts. Various types of Personal Protective Equipment might be required based on the employee's work location. The noise level in the office is usually low, but hearing protection may be advisable or required for prolonged visits to certain parts of the factory.
