Job Description

The Animal Care and Clinical Technician’s job duties will include maintaining the daily care and welfare of Precigen Exemplar Animals. This includes feeding, breeding, farrowing, facilitating environmental enrichment/socialization, and cleaning. Precigen Exemplar is a science-based company and requires accurate data records and documentation. All animal care must be conducted in compliance with the requirements and expectations of USDA, AAALAC, FDA, NIH and other relevant agencies. In addition, this position will assist in carrying out research protocols including but not limited to bleeding, behavioural activities, tissue harvests, etc. This position offers competitive wages, benefits, and bonus opportunities for qualified candidates.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide daily care for animals including feeding, cleaning, breeding, farrowing, weaning and observation
  • Assist in research protocols
  • Obtain necessary tissue and data to provide to internal and external research organizations
  • Maintain facilities
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records for animal treatment, observation, and inventory
  • Work as a team to accomplish the tasks required for the day
  • Work rotational weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BS/BA in Animal Science or other related field, or equivalent experience
  • Training in laboratory procedures and animal care guidelines (AWA and AAALAC)
  • Prior Experience in neonatal piglet and adult pig care preferred
  • Knowledge of AAALAC requirements and GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) procedures utilized in research involving animals
  • Experience with Word, Excel, and Email is desired
