Responsibilities of the Lead Aircraft Mechanic - A&P Technician:

As the Lead Aircraft Mechanic, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe operation of aircraft in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading a team of mechanics in performing routine maintenance on aircraft.
  • Verifying the mechanical systems' integrity before each flight.
  • Maintaining meticulous records of maintenance, repairs, inspections, and service-related reports.
  • Conducting inspections of engines, wings, propellers, tails, and other components to detect cracks, corrosion, or defects.
  • Inspecting hoses and lubricating joints, replacing any components showing signs of wear.
  • Consulting maintenance manuals and specifications to execute proper operations and replacements/repairs.
  • Efficiently and precisely installing new parts to replace defective or recalled components or to enhance aircraft performance.
  • Repairing sheet metal as required.
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of engines and operating systems through various tests and tools.
  • Identifying and resolving mechanical issues based on visual inspections or pilot/crew reports.
  • Collaborating with airframe and power plant (A&P) mechanics or other team members as necessary to repair engines and non-instrumental parts.
  • Undertaking other related tasks as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Profound knowledge of aircraft parts, systems, and mechanics.
  • Familiarity with tools and testing methods for assessing aircraft and its systems.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow manual instructions to resolve complex mechanical issues.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for record-keeping.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Commitment to superior workmanship.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Capability to conduct basic inspections and repairs.
  • Willingness and ability to acquire new skills and repair techniques.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills for discussing equipment malfunctions and completing reports.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an FAA-accredited technical school program with a minimum of 1,900 actual class hours required.
  • FAA A&P mechanic certification required within three years of hire.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in awkward positions and confined spaces, including standing, lying, and kneeling.
  • Capability to work on scaffolding or ladders.
  • Capacity to lift and handle objects weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and physical strength for operating tools and performing adjustments and repairs.
  • Visual acuity to inspect equipment and identify defects.
  • Adequate hearing to test sounds and assess aircraft functionality.
