SUMMARY:

The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for the overall operation, management, and strategic direction of Pharmacy Services in support of CareSouth Pharmacies. The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for ensuring the 340B program performance is at peak levels. He/she also establishes long and short-term departmental goals, ensuring the direction and management of the pharmacy services is consistent with the objectives and goals of CareSouth. The Director of Pharmacy Services is responsible for strategic planning for medication safety, business development, medication use improvement, and formulary management. He/she oversees pharmacy services to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but is not limited to, preparing, and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, and overseeing pharmacy's financial performance.


POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Develops strategy to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient pharmaceutical services to provide quality patient experiences and clinical excellence.
  2. Develops goals and manages fiscal activities of the pharmacy service line(s).
  3. Ensures that all use of 340B throughout CareSouth is fully compliant with applicable federal regulations and related interpretations for the program.
  4. Maximizes 340B eligibility opportunities to improve the ability to serve indigent patient populations.
  5. Establishes and maintains partnerships with providers and medical staff; uses evidence-based medicine, best practice programs, and systems analysis to actively influence and educate medical staff leaders.
  6. Oversees 340B contracts, including evaluation of options for new contracts or modifications to existing contracts.
  7. Promotes and educates providers on maximum utilization of 340B drugs and pricing in all qualified areas with all applicable products, including inpatient and referral contracts, to ensure greatest cost savings returns throughout the provider service system.
  8. Monitors the use of split billing software for accuracy of the data and purchases of medication consistent with program requirements.
  9. Ensures proper procurement of medications and utilization of medications, supplies, and other 340B associated assets.
  10. Monitor, analyze, and report on established performance metrics on a regular basis.
  11. Responsible for managing the operational budget of Pharmacy Services.
  12. Develop and manage comprehensive business plan for the Pharmacy including analysis of potential business opportunities, anticipated margins, and performance metrics.
  13. Ensure compliance with all licensure and governing body requirements including, but not limited to: Board of Pharmacy, Office of Pharmacy Affairs (incl. 340B Drug Pricing Program), etc.
  14. Works with Quality Improvement to develop and implement regular monitoring of quality indicators including but not limited to medication errors and client satisfaction.
  15. Ensures compliance with wholesale purchasing agreements and maintains close contact with vendors for ordering, inventory, and billing purposes.
  16. Develops and implements policies, procedures, protocols and operating standards to comply with regulatory requirements.
  17. Audits operations on a frequency necessary to determine regulatory compliance in conjunction with Compliance Officer.
  18. Creates reports detailing volume, profitability, pricing, and other reporting metrics as needed.
  19. Assists in training of staff when needed.
  20. Perform other necessary duties as assigned.

  5. Be present and ready for work as scheduled.
  6. Attend in-service trainings, departmental meetings, and community events.
  7. Work cohesively with team members.

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Graduation from a college or school of pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), such as a Doctor of Pharmacy Program (Pharm.D.)
  2. Must hold a current, unrestricted Louisiana pharmacist license
  3. Minimum 5 years of experience in management
  4. Understanding of pharmacy purchasing and procurement of drugs and 340B regulatory requirements
  5. Significant understanding of medical terminology
  6. Experience in analyzing and reporting data to identify issues, trends or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions
  7. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  8. Medicaid and Medicare experience is preferred
  9. Advanced level of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  10. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients and clinic staff
  11. Exceptional interpersonal communication skills
  12. Detail-oriented and persuasive
  13. Independent work ethic and forward-thinking negotiation skills
