Description

Atlantic Union's Summer Diversity Internship program is a professional development opportunity for local diverse students to gain practical work experience, helping students become better prepared to enter into the financial industry post-graduation. Students have the ability to build professional networks and receive training and mentoring throughout the program.

The FLOD Risk Analyst Intern will be responsible for assisting with supporting the implementation of Enterprise Risk Management Programs in the First Line of Defense. The ERM framework sets forth the enterprise level governance, policies and practices to proactively identify, assess, mitigate, monitor, and report on risk exposures in Atlantic Union's business and operations at all levels of the organization.

The Risk Intern will be assigned to a project underway for the three lines of defense to adopt a common taxonomy of risk and controls.

Position Accountabilities

  • Analyze industry and AUB risk and control register including current RCSA content to determine inclusion of certain horizontal topics (ex: business continuity); reconciling RCSAs with the Compliance Matrix and/or industry risks to determine gaps in coverage; Identifying outliers in Archer data (given a set of data and parameters)
  • Map risks and controls to existing business process inventory - data analysis
  • Manage milestone and project plan for deliverables in project
  • Participate process review and mapping in association with identified risk programs for integration approach
  • Document new processes related to alignment of use of the risk and control register across identified risk programs
  • Author procedural and training documentation
  • Deliver training to impacted risk professionals in working group and FLOD and 2LOD Risk
  • Execute on other records management or planning assigned tasks related to the enterprise risk management framework for FLOD Risk (share drive renamed, organized and cleaned up; Mapping out a FLOD calendar for 2023 that could be used as a template for move forward (high level of RCSAs, QRPs, RSPs, RCSAs, calibration meetings, training, etc. for a visual of required items and timing / what is to come)

Organizational Relationship

Internal - Extensive contact with 2LOD and 3LOD business partners (ERM, Legal, Compliance, CAAS)

Reports to: First Line of Defense Head of Business Risk or Assigned FLOD Risk Manager

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Data Science or Information Management competencies, Data Modeling, Statistical methods
  • Industrial Engineering, Business Reengineering, Decision Support and Project Management competencies
  • Fully competent in Microsoft project, excel, word, PowerPoint suite of tools
  • Interest in operational risk management; auditing, risk analysis in financial services is preferred

Knowledge & Skills

  • Interest in risk management
  • Knowledge of process review improvement techniques; risk and control, risk metrics preferred
  • Ability to establish a proactive, constructive dialogue with peers and management
  • Ability with data analytics preferred to drive performance in a complex organization.
  • Ability to develop written and oral presentations.
  • PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
