Department Overview

Electric Operations is responsible for every aspect of PG&E's electric distribution and transmission operations and maintenance, as well as Power Generation operations. The Team manages over 100,000 circuit miles of electric distribution lines and over 18,000 circuit miles of interconnected transmission lines, and operates and maintains PG&E's hydroelectric, fossil, solar generation and battery storage facilities, providing approximately 5,300 megawatts of generating capacity for customers.  Electric Operations is comprised of approximately 6,500 coworkers.

 

Position Summary

The Work Plan Portfolio Specialist plans and/or monitors an assigned department’s annual and/or multi-year work plan portfolio of jobs. Incumbents collaborate with stakeholders to plan and/or track the execution of work related to the overall portfolio by driving the creation of high-quality work plans and/or analyzing the work performance and execution efficiency of work in the portfolio. The Specialist establishes methods to gather data from leadership, finance, project management, operations, and other stakeholders for the portfolio/work plan. Specialists may utilize customized software and/or ERP systems to manage portfolio/work plan data and may be involved in driving the adoption of new planning systems and related processes cross departmentally. The incumbents strive to keep the portfolio/ work plan balanced with costs and resource availability.

 

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. 

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum: $​95,000

Bay Area Maximum: $​143,000

 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Applies advanced knowledge to various planning processes and challenges. Works primarily independently on projects and issues of larger scope or complexity, requiring evaluation of several variables. Primarily assigned to work plan for one major work category.
  • Partners with peers and stakeholders to develop integrated work plans, project updates and presentation materials for regular department work plan meeting. Assists stakeholders in preparing regular presentations regarding project status and workforce utilization.
  • Ensures resource balancing among all projects throughout the plan/portfolio in the assigned department. Runs regular reports from multiple data sources regarding actual available resources by work category and compares against the number and type of scheduled jobs.
  • Recommends resource planning changes to ensure work completion.
  • Diagnoses issues such as actual cost or resource data outside of plan. Determines how and where to obtain further information from systems or stakeholders to investigate and determine cause of variance. May independently reach out to stakeholders to explore performance variances and causes.
  • May develop recommendations regarding new or better reports based on assessment of stakeholder needs, resource planning trends and to provide better clarity and quality data for effective leadership decision making.
  • Presents project plan updates, analysis of resource plans and actuals to stakeholders throughout the service territory in assigned department. Discusses the trends and implications. Provides training and explanation on additional ways the stakeholders can use existing reports to further investigate issues or identify causes of variances.
  • Participates on special initiatives project teams. May assist with some IT related enhancement discussions. Collaborates with team members on most effective field rollout of process, tool and/or reporting changes.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, technical field, or equivalent related experience.
  • 5 years of total related experience such as integrated or strategic portfolio/work planning in an electric utility or related field.
