Summary:

The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor is responsible for supervision of the Outpatient Pharmacy including pharmacists and technicians. 

Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and oversees all operations and daily workflow of the outpatient pharmacy.

2. Ensures outpatient pharmacy meets operational timeframes and objectives.

3. Staffs front line operations as needed.

4. Manages and supervises employees, provides direction, coaches, trains and develops, and manages performance to company goals and expectations.

5. Provides leadership in the training, Human Resource issues, payroll, and scheduling of all pharmacy employees.

6. Coordinates and oversees all operations and daily workflow of the outpatient pharmacy department. Ensures outpatient pharmacy operations meets hospital mandated timeframes and deadlines.

7. Ensures the outpatient prescription process (prescription entry, verification, compounding, packaging, labeling, and dispensing) is compliant with Ohio Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, CMS, URAC, HRSA and FDA regulations.

8. Monitors and remediates medication errors and controlled substance monitoring and surveillance.

9. Oversees daily activities that support continuous quality improvement of patient care, including accurate dispensing of medications.

10. Maintains operating expenses based on an annual budget and assists in the preparation of the annual budget. Collaborates with the direct supervisor on inventory control.

11. Participates in performance improvement, fiscal, and productivity goals and objectives set forth by the Pharmacy Leadership Team.

12. Maintains effective communication with customers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other hospital team members.

13. Assesses and leads change as operations demand, including strategies designed to strengthen outpatient pharmacy programs.

14. Assists in all emergencies.

15. Other duties as required, including fulfilling duties of a dispensing outpatient pharmacist.

Technical Expertise

Education and Experience

1. Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Doctor of Pharmacy Degree is required

2. Licensure: Current License by the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy is required.

3. Certification: Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS), Board Certified Pediatric Pharmacy Specialist (BCPPS), or other BPS Board Certification is preferred.

4. A Post Graduate Year 1 Pharmacy Residency (PGY1) is preferred.

5. Years of relevant experience: 3 years is required.

6. Years of experience supervising: 2 years is preferred.
