What we do:

The Manager, EPU is responsible for the development of an integral Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) consisting of gearbox(es), electric motor(s), motor control unit(s) also known as inverter, and the associated subsystems. The Manager, EPU reports to the Head of Propulsion & Dynamic Systems and may support related special projects outside this scope to meet company objectives as required.

This position will be required to work on-site 5 days a week.

What you can do:
  • Responsible for management of the Electric Propulsion Unit (EPU) development
  • Lead and supervise a team of engineers specializing in electric motor design, motor control unit (inverter) design, control development, communication and other contributing electrical sub-systems
  • Delegate workload and support the EPU engineering team as required through technical and programmatic milestones
  • Manage different stages of the EPU development internally as well as externally with EPU subsystem/component suppliers to ensure on-time EPU delivery
  • Lead development of powertrain system complying with aircraft system requirements including but not limited to Power Quality, THD, crest factor, and grounding
  • Ensure efficient cross-collaboration between the EPU team and other teams on the program
  • Own verification and validation activities and collaborate with the Test & Evaluation Team to plan, support, and conduct tests as required
  • Support the Propulsion & Dynamic Systems Team in the integration of the EPU(s) into the air vehicle in the following areas: EPU to rotating controls and rotor hub integration, EPU to airframe integration, EPU to aircraft electric system, aircraft assembly sequence, and work with the Assembly and Integration Team to provide prototype parts to support system level testing and engineering builds
  • Execute administrative tasks as required to support prototype build and testing
  • Communicate directly with management and cross-functional leaders
  • Partner with PMO organization to execute build plan
  • Requires up to 25% of domestic and international travel
  • Other duties as assigned
What you can contribute:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required; Master’s degree or PhD preferred (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Minimum ten (10) years of relevant experience in related fields
  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience working on electric propulsion systems, preferably in aerospace or automotive applications
  • Experience with team leadership/supervision
  • Experience with Project Management and planning, as well as engineering resource management
  • Familiarity with electric propulsion system production processes associated with gearbox, electric motor, and motor control subsystems
  • Strong understanding of conceptual design techniques associated with gearbox, electric motor, and motor control sub-assemblies
  • Background with propulsion system design & testing, including gearboxes, electric motors, and internal combustion engines and their installations
  • Proficient in using a 3D Computer Aided Design System (Catia V5, Solidworks, Solid Edge, Auto CAD or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software such as 3D Experience
  • Must display ability to identify problems, recommend solutions, and negotiate and execute contingency plans
  • Ability to use problem solving techniques (ex. Fish bone diagrams, Fault tree analysis, 8D, etc.)
  • Must be able to accept personal and group responsibility and accountability for major analytical and planning assignments
  • Works well with all levels of management, including executive management
  • Strong teamwork skills like ability to develop consensus and move the program forward as well as develop win-win situations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
You may also be able to contribute:
  • Familiarity with rotorcraft vehicle and related sub-component product development processes is preferred
  • Prior background knowledge of electric and hybrid powertrain systems preferred
  • Prior knowledge of gearboxes integrated with electric machines preferred

Base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for a bonus as part of total compensation.

The pay range for this position is:
$192,400$289,120 USD
