Anika Systems is a fast growing, woman-owned small business that specializes in providing innovative IT solutions for federal government agencies.  Our expertise lies in accelerating delivery in Data and Analytics, Intelligent Automation, Application Development, and IT Modernization.  We are currently expanding our Federal team and are looking for interns to join our growing team.  This opportunity is 100% remote and is a paid internship. 

Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a government suitability clearance

The Machine Learning Engineer Intern will work with the technical team to research and develop Generative AI enabled applications and drive intelligent automation solutions for Anika Systems. You will be involved in all phases of AI development, starting from the initial conceptualization, progressing through data gathering and cleansing, to programming the application, and finally, testing and refinement. Your role will combine theoretical design with practical coding, debugging, and optimization of software applications that leverage Large Language Models. You will also have the opportunity to conduct research on the latest advancements in the field of generative AI and contribute ideas on how to incorporate these into our projects.

In this role, you will:

  • Work closely with the technical team to understand the requirements and develop Generative AI solutions that meet those needs
  • Test and refine the developed AI applications, ensuring their effectiveness and efficiency
  • Learn to effectively prompt engineer LLMs
  • Use responsible AI best practices and principles
  • Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement
  • Research new developments in the field of Generative AI
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile development processes
  • Develop foundational knowledge of cloud services
  • Contribute to documentation and knowledge sharing activities  

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • At least two years of college coursework
  • Current student pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related field (3.0+ GPA)
  • Strong knowledge of Python and other programming languages
  • Understanding of data structures and algorithms
  • Strong technical aptitude and desire for continuous learning
  • Effective time management skills and strong attention to detail
  • Excited about the vast possibilities of Generative AI

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience with Generative AI technology (LLMs, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, vector databases)
  • Understanding of how Large Language Models work
  • Hands-on experience with cloud services (Microsoft Azure, AWS)
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning libraries
  • Experience with Application Development
